Jack Brumley Obituary

JACK BRUMLEY

Jack Brumley, 74, a long time resident of Gridley, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007, in Yuba County. Jack was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Pontotoc, Okla.

Jack is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jane Ann Brumley of Gridley; his daughters: Victoria Lynn Brumley of Ben, Ore.; and Mary Elizabeth Brumley-Farruggia with husband Tom of Redmond, Ore., and his son David Ray Brumley with wife Susan, of Morehead City, N. C.; one sister Debra Sue Barron of Grand Prairie, Texas. In addition, Jack has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Bertie Lewis Brumley, his father, Earl Lee Brumley, his stepmother, Lila Ruth Brumley Sheets, a sister, Sundene Fisher, and his son, Timothy Russell Brumley.

He graduated from Gridley High School in 1951.

Jack served in the Army during the Korean War. He received his BA degree in general elementary education from Chico State College in 1962 and began his teaching career. He worked at Bear River School in Wheatland.

Jack was very active with his children and his community. He volunteered his time as a swim official with the Gridley Gators Swim team and the US Swim Official Association for eighteen years. Jack and Jane co-directed the Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament for sixteen years.

Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gridley.

Jack retired from classroom teaching in 1993, but found many new hobbies including, membership with the Brushy Creek Rangers of Wheatland where he participated in black powder muzzle loading. Jack also developed a love of restoring classic cars.

The Gridley Chamber of Commerce named Jack and Jane Couple of the Year in 2003.

There will be a viewing at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel Friday, May 11, 2007, from 3‹8 P.M.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2007, at 2 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church of Marysville.

In lieu of flowers, Jack's family requests contributions are made to the American Heart Association, 28 Hanover Ln., Chico, CA, to the Timothy Brumley Memorial Scholarship Fund in C/O the First Presbyterian Church of Gridley, P0 Box 950, Gridley, CA 95948. or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel.

It was with great sadness that I read of Jack's death. We were involved with both Jack and Jane in swimming and owe a debt of gratitude to the both of them for giving of their time and knowledge. Our best wishes go to Jane and family.
