Jon Raven Obituary

JON DAVID RAVEN

Jon David Raven unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Jon was born in Stockton on July 20, 1971 to Dave and Ginger Raven.

Jon attended Sierra View Elementary School, Chico Jr. High, and graduated from Chico Sr. High in 1989. He played soccer, baseball and football in his youth. He became an accomplished golfer, playing Varsity golf all three years of high school. This past summer, after months of not playing, in typical Jon fashion he used someone else's clubs and shot a 3 over par 75 at Bailey Creek.

In addition to being an avid golfer, if any sport had the word "board" in its name he enjoyed it (wakeboard, skateboard, snowboard). Jon loved the outdoors, ran daily in the park and hiked with his good friend, Brittnany, in upper park almost daily.

Jon had his Concrete Construction license and was an amazing concrete finisher. He loved his work and was a perfectionist in all that he did.

Our family is proud that Jon had found God as his strength and his path to a peaceful life. His church recovery groups meant the world to Jon. He helped so many people along the way with their recovery and he had been clean and sober for the last two years.

Jon is survived by his parents, Ginger Picchi (Gary) and Dave Raven; brother, Jeff Raven, and stepbrother, Brian Picchi. His aunts/ uncles, Eileen (Robert) Thorvilson, Paul (Debbie) Vorachek, Jim Vorachek, Brian Vorachek and Jessica, Kathie (Wayne) Heringer, Terrylin Picchi, Sharon (Greg) Johnston and many cousins and extended family. His precious stepdaughter, Caylin Din, who he loved so much. Along with many friends who cared and loved Jon and share our grief in his passing.

Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Newton-Bracewell, and services will be at the East Avenue Community Church at 1184 East Ave, Chico, CA on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to the Skyway House (Jon graduated from their residential drug and alcohol program) http://skywayhouse.org, or in care of Newton-Bracewell. View the obituary and share your thoughts online at nbcfh.com.

The loss of Jon has weighed heavy on my mind. I played on the Butte golf team with Jon and was amazed at how easy golf came to him. I have happy thoughts of being in the golf van with Jon and his constant companion the Grateful Dead. He was a caring friend. My thoughts go out to his family.

Those who knew Jon knew how gifted, talented, and loving he was. A beautiful man inside and out. (As his family you know that best). We were blessed and happy when we were able to visit. We loved him. Our hearts died a little inside when we heard of his passing. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you in your time of mourning. Dave: We are sad to hear of Jon's untimely passing away.
He was many things to many people-son, brother, friend,- and he was a hard worker who found a calling where he excelled. His concrete work at Brett's is superior.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.

to jon's family -- you do not know me, but i saw jon often. i loved the chance to see the depth of his soul, the goodness he radiated and his clear generosity to others. i have cried much with you, though you are not aware. i probably represent a lot of souls. there is no right thing to give, to do , to say - i feel, but i extend the strongest love i have to you all at this time. i will continue to plead with God that whatever you need may be given you now. my heart truly aches with you and for you. i loved him.... though from a far distance. his face was a security to me. thank you for bringing him into this world. love and tenderness,
Siri
