John Cockerill Obituary

John Nathan Cockerill

GREENFIELD: John Nathan Cockerill (Nathan), 39, of Greenfield, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois passed away on August 12, 2016 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio to Paul and Jane (Lucas) Cockerill. He was involved in McClain High School football and drama before attending Otterbein College and obtaining his Bachelors in Fine Arts. His talents as a comedic actor and writer led him to The Second City Cleveland and the Cleveland Conservatory where he became a respected alumnus and instructor, inspiring many performers.

Nathan was a passionate board game collector, player, and International Diplomacy Champion. His most treasured times were spent playing board games with friends, acquaintances, and strangers. But strangers became fast friends when they got to know Nathan's kind nature, caring demeanor, and reliable humor.

His love of books only enhanced his natural brilliance, wit, and imagination. His pranks and storytelling were the stuff of legend. Memories of Nathan and shared experiences will bring smiles to the faces of those he touched for decades to come.

Nathan is survived by his parents, Paul and Jane (Lucas) Cockerill of Greenfield; a brother Tate and his wife Corey (Henry) Cockerill and their children Otis and Lyla of Leesburg; grandmothers, Anna Lou Lucas of Greenfield and Jenny Cockerill of Frankfurt; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by grandfathers John H. Lucas and Curtis E. Cockerill.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 18, at the First United Methodist Church in Greenfield, with Pastor Kevin Hall officiating and burial to follow. Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in Nathan's memory to The First United Methodist Church, 405 South Street, Greenfield, Ohio 45123.

Not sure what to say?

August 28, 2016

We may say that Nathan is now free of pain, and it is true, but we know your great pain at his loss has only begun. There is so little that we can say at times like this...at losing a child. But God is strong and bears all things for us if we but ask. May He bless you and give you peace. Ed and Cora

My most sincere condolences to Nate's family. He made people laugh, which made people feel, and that's a pretty amazing gift to be able to give to others. He will be missed.

Paul, So very sorry to hear of Nate's passing. I got to know and enjoy Nate, when he worked at The Embassy Suite in Columbus. He was a sales assistant, and I was the Banquet Manager at the time. His wit, humor, and kind heart always made me smile.
