BRIAN CEROW Obituary

BRIAN CEROW PENN YAN Brian G. Cerow, age 74, of Penn Yan, NY, passed away on August 23, 2024 after a brief illness with family by his side. Brian was born in Alexandria Bay on July 17, 1950, the eldest son of the late Gordon D. Cerow, Jr and Joanne (Burtch) Cerow. Brian graduated from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester and later moved to Penn Yan with his wife, Beverly, in 1980. Brian was a jovial fixture within the produce department at P&C and lended his extensive musical talents to countless local concerts and productions. He also enjoyed umpiring high school girls' softball and belonged to the Four Lakes Chapter of NYS Softball Officials. He was dedicated to his family and especially treasured the holiday season when everyone could all be together. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Beverly Cerow and son Ben Cerow, both of Penn Yan; daughter Abby (Miles) DeCastro of Potsdam; brothers Audie (Laura) Cerow, Bruce (Michelle) Cerow, and Todd (Lyn) Cerow, all of Clayton; sisters Cynthia (Don) Cwynar of Carpentersville, IL; and Sylvia (Jim) Hungerford of Webster; special aunt Helen Brennan of Clayton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family and friends may call at the Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St, Penn Yan, on Wednesday (Sept 4) from 10am to 12pm, followed by a memorial service at 12pm. A luncheon reception will be held at the Moose Lodge, 301 E. Elm St, Penn Yan, immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Brian's memory to the Humane Society of Yates County, PO Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or to PYTCo (Penn Yan Theatre Company), PO Box 106, Penn Yan, NY 14527. David and I knew Brian from working at Newark Florist back in the day, then would run into him in Penn Yan and various places over the years. He never changed. Always a smile and upbeat, with a funny take on life. As others have mentioned, he was one of the happiest and kindest people I have ever known. Rest in peace, Brian, and keep laughing.

I was fortunate to play softball with Brian for a number of years - he was always supportive and a team player - after that he would come into Area R&M to locate music recordings and publications - always a joy talking to him - always a real good person - M. George
