Janet Ann Cripe passed away peacefully at her home on February 15, 2026. Janet was born on February 27 th , 1934, to the late Kathyrn and Jesse Cripe in Hammond Indiana. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette and was a proud Purdue University Alumni.
Janet was a life-long musician, performed as a soloist at Purdue and at Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. She sang in many choirs including the Jonesboro Presbyterian church, the Marion Lyric Club and other ensembles. Her passion and abilities made her a pleasure to be around as she shared her craft. She is now singing with the angels.
Janet Cripe lived life her way, a full life of travel, family, friends, church and care. After retiring from the Social Security Administration in 1989, she began to try to figure out what she wanted to do when she grew up. Her youthful wanderlust and the joy of the pursuit of a garage sale combined for great stories of adventures, discovery and jubilation, especially upon finding a new place to eat.
Janet believed in helping others, especially those from challenged backgrounds. She served in many ways including in her church, being a board member of the Community School for the Arts as well as leading the Grant County Literacy Council. She mentored the young and all those around her.
Aunt Janet loved her family, and her three nephews knew that each were held in a special place in their aunt's heart. She was the Donald Duck, and they were the Hughie, Dewey and Louie. This love continued to flow on to her great nieces and nephews. Each of us will always have a special place in our hearts for Aunt Janet and the love she shared.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathyrn and Jesse Cripe, her brother and sister-in-law Don and Mariam Cripe and her oldest nephew, Robert Cripe.
Aunt Janet is survived by her nephews and their wives Scott and Barbara Cripe, Bloomington Indiana, Todd and Cheryl Cripe, Marietta Georgia and Kathy Sawaki, Dahlonega Georgia: and great nieces and nephews Sean and Sarah Cripe, Annie and Ian Drennan, Jae, Nick, Everett, Dellon, Kaiya, Ashe, Corbin, Lilah and Phoebe.
The family wishes to thank the care giver team and especially Wendy Moore, who held Janet's hand as she passed on as well as all those who shared their lives and care for our beloved Aunt.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Jonesboro Presbyterian Church on Thursday, February 26th, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with the Grant County Humane Society.

Janet will always be part of special and fond memories for our family. She was a loyal friend to our Mom, Anita Donaldson, who passed away 3 1/2 years ago. Janet accompanied Mom for many adventures across several state lines to visit us "girls" over the years. Janet even rode with Mom and another good friend to Dallas, TX in 1989 to attend my bridal shower. She was always easy to please and a pleasure to host. Janet loved our kitties and was always appreciative of whatever we had to offer. She was a very special person. May God bless and comfort Janet's family members at this sad time.
