On December 6, 1969, he married Linda (Tinkle) Cain. Steve and Linda lived in Sweetser, Indiana, for more than 50 years and also lived in Douglasville, Georgia, from 1988-1990. In 2020, they moved to the Heritage Pointe Dogwood Glen Villas in Warren, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene (Mary) Cain, and his granddaughter, Meghan Freer.

A private memorial service will be held with Pastor Terry Bishir officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory in Marion, Indiana.

The family would prefer that no flowers or gifts be sent. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, P.O. Box 289, Sweetser, IN 46987 and/or Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 399, Sweetser, IN 46987.
