Michael Clemmer Obituary

Michael William Clemmer
March 11, 1946 – October 31, 2021
Michael William Clemmer died at his home on October 31, 2021, at the age of 75.
He was born on March 11, 1946, in Columbus, OH to the late Orie and Pauline Clemmer. He attended Carmel High School in Carmel, IN, earned a bachelor's degree at Ball State University, and an MBA from Eastern Michigan University.
Mike honorably served our country in the US Army Linguistics Division stationed in Berlin, Germany where he attained the rank of Captain, then continued to serve for several years in the US Army Reserves. He met Diane in Bellevue, WA in 1984, where they were later married and combined their families of two children each.
Mike was raised in a very close and loving family. Some of Mike's favorite memories from his childhood were when he, his siblings and two cousins would spend every summer vacation together: half the summer at his home in Carmel, IN and half with his aunt and uncle in Columbus, OH. Over the years they all loved telling endless stories about their adventures and good times together. Eventually, the entire extended family consisting of four generations would gather every Fourth of July to celebrate the "Annual Beer Sunrise and Family Reunion" in Columbus, which has been held for the past 41 years.
Mike developed a strong work ethic as a young boy with a newspaper delivery route he held for several years, and later when he worked at a Stokely Van Camp canning company and at a local supermarket. After college and serving in the Army, he began his life-long career in the heavy-duty truck finance industry at Ford Motor Credit Company in Dearborn, MI.
Through the years he was promoted to senior management positions as his career advanced him through Associates Commercial Credit, PACCAR Financial Company, Kenworth Truck Company, Mercedes Benz Credit Corp., Daimler-Chrysler Credit Corp., Volvo Truck North America and Mack Truck Company, giving him and his family the opportunity to experience living in many parts of the country.
Mike retired in 2016 when he and his wife moved permanently to a golf club community in Sugarmill Woods, FL.
Mike enjoyed many outdoor activities with his family, including speed boating, water skiing, jet skiing, camping and riding dirt bikes in the mountains. Snow skiing was a favorite sport when he lived in the Seattle area, and he became an avid cyclist while living in Greensboro. Golf had become his great passion by the time he retired - he practiced endlessly, honing his skills to lower his handicap with the help of PGA professionals living next door. In addition, he enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle.
As the self-appointed neighborhood caretaker, Mike looked after everybody on the block. Every year he sealed all the driveways on the cul-de-sac to maintain a well-kept curb appearance. He helped care for some of the residents who had physical difficulties and anyone else who needed help of any kind.
As he grew older, Mike became more involved in the church and works of charity. A devout Catholic, he became an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point, NC, and later at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River, FL, serving as Lector, Eucharistic Minister and Altar Server.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a Grand Knight both at IHM and at St. Benedict. He also was a member of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.
He has always had a soft place in his heart for the intellectually and developmentally disabled, and joined Family and Friends Reaching for Abilities (FFRA), a non-profit organization providing social and learning opportunities for the population in Citrus County, FL.
There he was an officer and member of the board of directors, planning and organizing many events and functions involving and benefiting these special individuals, as well as being a companion to several clients during their weekly outings and activities.
Mike lived a full life with the love of his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Diane Acker Clemmer, his children, Liane Clemmer Humphrey, Anthony Clemmer (Annie Koehler), Craig Cessna (Robin), Christine Cessna (Jason Sweat), sister Lynda Samm (Clarence), brother Matthew Clemmer (Leann), grandchildren Larisa Adaline, Sterling Adeline, Aubrie Olson, Nicholas Slead, Kyle Sitowski and Demri Robertson, nieces Michelle Samm and Kristin Clemmer Ellis, and his first wife, Roswitha Clemmer.
He was dearly loved and will be missed by many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 455 S. Suncoast Blvd., Crystal River, FL 34429. A reception will follow.
The interment of his cremains will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in High Point, NC at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Mike would be honored to have donations made in his memory to St. Benedict Catholic Church, Family and Friends Reaching for Abilities of Citrus County, or the Pregnancy and Family Life Center in Citrus County.
Brown Funeral Home & Crematory in charge of cremation arrangements.

Death leaves a heartache that no words can heal; love leaves memories that no one can steal. Mike leaves great memories and will always be one of the finest men, I have had the pleasure to know. May the love and memories he leaves give you comfort.

My deepest sympathies to Diane and all of Mike's family during this difficult time. Mike was one of God's own here on earth. He was always willing to help out his fellow man and his commitment to his church and fellow man was ever present. I am fortunate to have known Mike and Diane for several years and know they lived life to the fullest. May peace come on swift wings as the family gathers in remembering all the fun times lived with him. Our memories keep our loved one in our hearts and we take comfort in knowing we shall meet again when our own time comes.

I am so very sorry to learn of Mike's passing. I only met the one time, at our high school reunion potluck-picnic. He was what I would term a real man; stepping in and doing what needed to be done. May Our Heavenly Father be especially close to you all in the days ahead.
