Charlie Wojcik Obituary

Wojcik

Charlie Victor Wojcik, age 89, of Milford, passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 1, 2017, at Cincinnati Hospice, Blue Ash. He was born October 12, 1928, in Jefferson, Ashtabula County, Ohio, the son of Vincent and Carrie (Janick) Wojcik.

Mr. Wojcik served as a radio operator as a corporal in the Army in the Panama Canal Zone from 1946-1949. A proud graduate of the Ohio State University, for thirty years Mr. Wojcik taught science and math in Ashtabula, Convoy, and Indian Hill Exempted Schools. A man of many talents, Mr. Wojcik was well-known for repairing engines, raising the roof on his home and other additions and repairs, and photographing community and family events. Mr. Wojcik loved all kinds of games from croquet to softball often hosting neighborhood children for softball, tetherball, volleyball, or badminton games. Because of his love for and involvement in the game, a ball field at Lake Lorelei was named after him and a colleague.

Mr. Wojcik is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ann (Mace) Wojcik who he married on August 28, 1954 in Spencerville, Ohio, his children Dawn Wojcik, Amy (Wojcik) Cross, Victor Wojcik, and Inas (Wojcik) Mrabet, his son-in-law Otmane Mrabet, his grandchildren, Krizinne Cross, (her partner, Jerod Jardine), Ronald Cross, and Omar Mrabet, and his great-grandchildren Colten Jardine and Jasper Jardine.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wojcik is preceded in death by his sisters Jesse Brocklehurst, Judy (Julia) Mescall, Sophia DiCarlo, and his brothers John Wojcik, Walter Wojcik, Stanley Wojcik, and Ted Wojcik.

A service will be held later at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choosing. Condolences: www.turnerfuneralhomes.cc

I was thinking about Charlie today and was sad to learn he had passed away. He was a wonderful teacher and very patient with the sometimes rowdy kids at Indian Hill High School. We had a great time in his biology class and learned a lot. Yes he would shake his head at our antics but sometimes laugh along. He genuinely loved the kids and he helped us to grow and learn. What a great legacy.

Charlie was/is a great example of the life he lived, the lives he helped shape, and the desire for all to have the opportunities that challenged him. Charlie believed in people, and that all things were possible if one just researched and found the answers to complete a project.

Dad, we’re coming upon yet another year that has gone by without you. I think of you often and all that I’ve learned from you, including but not limited to mechanics and home repairs. These talents have served me well. Miss your hugs and your smile. Love, Amy

Mr. Wojcik was my high school chemistry teacher at Indian Hill (class of '60). He and my dad, also a chemist, convinced me to go into chemistry. I managed to receive a Ph.D. in chemistry and retired as a chemist from Eastman Chemical Company. He gave me a good start! Dave Petke
