DENTERLEIN Geraldine (nee Amarina) of Cincinnati, died at age 90, Aug. 14, 2010, at home, gently, in her sleep. Loving wife of the late Arthur Albert Denterlein, and devoted mother of three sons, Thomas (Arti) of San Francisco, David of Cincinnati, and Robert (Christina) of Fairfield, and by a daughter, Geraldine (Jack Thomas) of Cambridge, MA.; also by 11 grandchildren, Priscilla and Timothy of New York City, Brian and Emily of Cincinnati, John (Jennifer) Denterlein of Kettering, Matthew, Mark and Andrew of Fairfield, Jennifer Rando of Ft. Myers, FL, and Faith Tracy and John Patrick Thomas of Cambridge; also by five great grandchildren, Ryan, Tessa, Cameron and Nolan of Cambridge and Phoebe of Ft. Myers. The youngest of seven children of Italian immigrants, she was born in Cincinnati and took pride in being alone among her siblings to be born on American soil. For many years she was secretary in the department of Chemical and Nuclear Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. In retirement, she travelled with her husband to Europe and across America. They belonged to three dance clubs in Cincinnati but favored the dance floor at the Netherland Plaza Hotel. A loyal Reds fan, she doted on the Big Red Machine of the Seventies, and the week of her death, she was cheering her Reds against the Cardinals. She loved downtown Cincinnati, shopping at Shillitos, lunching with family or friends at Mike Finks on the Ohio River, and anything sung by Dean Martin, who -- she was quick to note - was Italian. Her family is grateful for the loving care of Vitas Hospice and Kyra Rosensweig. We soothe our sorrow by imagining that she is reunited with Art, that the angels are playing big band music, and that once again, Art and Gerry are dancing to anything by Cole Porter. Art whispers something funny in her ear, and although she's heard it before, she is laughing heartily again, because she loves the way he tells stories. After the dance, they sit together, have a cocktail, and through eternity, they will love one another and be loved by everyone they meet.
