K. William "Bill", died March 2, 2012. Dr. Kitzmiller was born September 23, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He grew up in Clifton and graduated from St. Xavier High School, member of the Class of 1949. In 1954 he received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Cincinnati. Upon his college graduation until 1956 he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the United Stated Air Force, stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Dr. Kitzmiller entered UC's College of Medicine in 1956 and was a member of the Class of 1960. Following a Rotating Residency at Cincinnati General and a Fellowship Residency at Mayo Clinic, he was very proud that in 1964, Dr. Leon Goldman, then Chair of UC's Department of Dermatology, asked him to join his private dermatology practice. His solo dermatology practice began in 1974 and continues today. Bill Kitzmiller practiced dermatology for 46 years. Anyone who knew him knew he loved to network and be involved. Besides his private practice, he was a leader in the medical field and in civic organizations throughout Cincinnati. He is past Associate Clinical Professor at UC's Department of Dermatology and UC's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery where his son, Dr. John Kitzmiller is currently chief. He remained active and loyal to UC College of Medicine throughout his career as a volunteer Professor in Dermatology and also later in Plastic Surgery. He was past President of the Cincinnati Dermatology Society, the Noah Worcester Dermatological Society and the Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati; First District Councilor of the Ohio State Medical Association; Alternate Delegate to American Medical Association. He served for many years as Chairman of Dermatology at Jewish Hospital, and at Good Samaritan Hospital and also held leadership positions at Christ and Bethesda Hospitals. Dr. Kitzmiller actually loved going to staff meetings. His civic leadership included Leadership Cincinnati Class 12; Rotary Club International; Mt. Lookout Civics Club. Commentator on the original "Call the Doctor" WCPO television broadcast and various other television, print and media organizations. His dear friend, Paul Florey, asked him to be Medical Consultant for the ATP Tennis Tournament, a position he held for years. United Way awarded him with the Neil McElroy Award in 1991; Little Sisters of the Poor recognized his 36 years of faithful service in 2006. Lastly, Bill was incredibly proud of his 42 years of sobriety and his strong relationship with the Cincinnati Fellowship of Alcoholic's Anonymous. He attended weekly meetings at Oak Street and was an active counselor for them until very recently. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice; 5 children, Sue K. Blaney (Ben), W. John Kitzmiller, M.D. (Sarah), Daniel J. Kitzmiller (Susan), Sarah M. Heidelberg (David), Brian A. Kitzmiller (Sara); 7 grandchildren, Alice Blaney, Emily Kitzmiller, Jordan Norris, Jacqueline Kitzmiller, Mary Katherine (M.K.) Kitzmiller, William Heidelberg, Vivian Heidelberg; and his sister Vivian Wardlaw, brothers Tim Kitzmiller and George Kitzmiller, M.D; many nieces and nephews and their children.His infant son, Kevin William Kitzmiller, his mother Mary A. Kitzmiller and his father Karl V Kitzmiller, M.D, preceded Dr. Kitzmiller in death. A Memorial Service will be held this Saturday, March 10th, 2pm, at St. Rose Church, 2501 Riverside Dr., Cincinnati, OH 45202.
