Melba DAUGHERTY Obituary
DAUGHERTY
Melba (nee Ort), survived by her daughter, Joyce (George Seibel Jr.) Daugherty, her sister-in-law Kay Ort, nephews Dale Owens, Kerry (Joy) Owens, Thomas Ort and her niece Peggy Ort (Matt) Carey, all of whom reside in Northern Kentucky. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews and her dear cousin Annabelle Murphy. She was preceded in death by her younger siblings Beulah Ort Owens and Frank Ort, brother-in-law Arthur Owens and nephews Arthur R. Owens and Andrew Ort. Her parents were Frank Ort Jr. and Eleanor Mueller Ort. Melba grew up in Bellevue, Kentucky and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Dayton, Kentucky where she spent many years as church organist. She moved to Price Hill in 1976 and to Delhi Township in 1980, where she lived until 2006. She spent her final years in a retirement home in Finneytown. She passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2014 after a long-term illness. Melba was a graduate of Bellevue High School in 1940, the University of Cincinnati and earned her Master's Degree in Education from Xavier University. Melba taught kindergarten for almost 30 years at Osage and Whittier elementary schools in Price Hill. Private funeral service. Special condolences may be expressed at www.frederickfh.com

She was my kindergarten teacher, and I knew she taught for many years after, the huge amount of lives she must have changed, the world has lost a great person.

She was my first teacher, kindergarten at Whittier elementary in the early 1980's. I have very fond memories of my time at Whittier. My condolences to the family. Thanks for making my first school experience a great one. RIP Ms. Daughtery!

She was my teacher at Whittier. And now I'm a teacher. I remember her being very firm but I learned my A B C 's and got a ginger bread stamp for doing so. Thank you for having the patients to teach me Mrs Daughtry. My prayers to her family
