Ronald LENHOFF Obituary
LENHOFF Ronald Raymond. Ron was born August 29th, 1931 to John and Ruth Lenhoff in Elsmere Kentucky. After graduating from Newport Catholic High School in 1949 he joined the Navy. While in the Navy he flew in the VP21 Bomber Squadron as a Radio and Electronics man aboard a P2V bomber. While in the Navy between 1951 to 1955 he was stationed in Malta where he met his wife of 51 years, Evelyn who was a member of the English Navy. After leaving the Navy in 1955 he went to work for Fidelity Recording Studio in Cincinnati Ohio where he learned his craft of recording engineer. He owned Fidelity for a few years until joining King Records in 1964. While at King Records he became Chief Engineer and personal engineer for James Brown. He is credited for engineering what was called the Cincinnati Sound that was evident in the James Brown Recordings and unique to King Records. Ron's innovative placement of mikes, to attain this sound, was documented in an article in the British Sound Magazine. When King Records closed in 1972 Ron made a decision to get out of the recording business. For the next few years he still freelanced in the recording business taking two trips to Africa and one to Europe as James Brown's sound technician. His electronics background enabled him to work as an elevator mechanic for the next 20 years. During that time he spent 15 years as chairman of the local British Heritage group, The Lions, and Eagles Club. For 12 years he also was the secretary of his Naval Squadron Organization known as VP21. Ron also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and golf and traveled extensively all over the world. He especially enjoyed traveling back to England with his wife, Lyn, visiting her relatives and seeing the country. His wife of 51 years, Evelyn, his sons Mark Lenhoff of Burlington and Bruce Lenhoff of Florence, as well as seven grandchildren survive Ron. Visitation will be Thursday, November 30th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Linnemann Funeral Home, 30 Commonwealth Avenue, Erlanger Kentucky. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 1st, 10 A.M., Saint Barbara Church, Turkeyfoot Road.
