Wasef was a very close friend and mentor for me for a long time. We were college roommates for years. We were also soulmates for a long time! I was his sounding board as he wrote his doctoral thesis, as he did his first class teaching of the American government course in the summer school at the University of Cincinnati. I was in attendance when he engaged his beloved Lea, God bless her sole. Afterwords that same morning I still remember, we had breakfast at Lea's family home. I was with Wasef as he bought his first used Buick that he drove away with Lea at his side to his first teaching job at some college somewhere in Pennsylvania. God! this stuff is more than sixty years old but does not seem that long ago! I still remember it as if it was yesterday! I really miss Wasef, he was a great part of my life.

Dr. Abboushi was my favorite and the best professor at the University of Cincinnati. I learned so much about Middle Eastern politics and history from his passionate, informative lectures. I worked harder in his classes and learned more, than from any other at UC. He became a friend to my dear friend, Amy and I, outside of class as well. I remember fondly Amy and I meeting him at a local establishment shortly after returning from a semester at the Sorbonne. Dr. Abboushi encouraged us to "put on our" French when we met his daughter who was coming to join him. He thought it would be great fun to see if she believed our act. It was also a great honor to have the opportunity to meet his beautiful daughter. I will always remember his passion for teaching and his love of his students and people in general. My college age children have heard me speak of Dr. Abboushi many times. Extending my condolences to his family and friends.

Dr. Abboushi was a great mentor and teacher. He guided my graduate studies in Middle East politics with commitment and a good dose of humor. I will always remember interviewing with him for the graduate program. I said I wanted to study Middle East politics with him. He gave me, a blond midwesterner with an aura of naiveté, a long look and joked "they are going to love you in Lebanon." Then he took me under his tutelage. Thank you Dr. Abboushi.

On behalf of the Department of Political Science, as Dept Head, allow me to send my condolences to the family of Wasif. On a personal note, Wasif was a terrific colleague who welcomed me into the department in 1991 and challenged me to think critically and seek to inspire students, which he did with grace and consistency. A terrific scholar-teacher that we will miss.

I met Wasif in my first year at the University of Cincinnati in the late fifties. He was then writing his PhD thesis while I was struggling with my freshman English.. We became close friends and roommates early on. Wasif was my mentor and I was at his side when he made the biggest decisions of his life such as marrying his beloved Lea, god blesses her sole. Now they will be united in heaven. Lots of fond memories dear, Wasif! Until we meet again, rest in peace!

A great man and a friend to all his students, who always sought to be fair in lecturing on complex, highly charged topics, I remember his classes (and dinners at the Corinthian!) fondly.
