Don Gregg Obituary

Don E. Gregg

Don E. Gregg, 85, of Hendersonville passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014.

Mr. Gregg was born November 30, 1928, the son of the late Elmer B. Gregg and Susan Baird Gregg. He was also preceded in death by his brother Joe.

Mr. Gregg served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed in Europe and Japan where he taught courses on jet engines to American Allies.

Mr. Gregg attended NC State University where he studied Electrical Engineering. He was part of the Telemetry department at Kearfott, and later RCA, and also served as Plant Manager at Carolina Industries for a number of years leading up to his retirement.

Mr. Gregg greatly enjoyed photography and traveling, and while both pursuits took him to many places across the nation, he and his wife were residents of Swannanoa for more than 50 years before moving to Hendersonville in 2001. He was a dedicated member of Swannanoa First Baptist Church, and later transferred his membership to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hendersonville.

Mr. Gregg is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Luetta Waldrup Gregg; his son, Dan Gregg of Fletcher; his sister, Jean Ramsey of Black Mountain; three grandchildren, Michelle Sprinkle of Jupiter, Scot Gregg of Denver, NC and Heather Gregg of Hendersonville and two great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 Wednesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. James Lamb. Burial will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elizabeth House, Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 581 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

Don will be missed. I grew up In Swannanoa Baptist Church. After I left there, anytime that I went back to visit, Don always seemed to find and greet me. He was always a warm and caring person.
