Anthony Charles Cella, 83, formerly of West Pittston, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Grand View Hospital, Sellersville.
Born in West Pittston, Feb. 27, 1941, he was the son of the late Anthony T. and Frances Menichini Cella.
Tony was a graduate of Exeter High School, Class of 1958. Tony served from 1962 to 1965 in the U.S. Army. In 1966, Tony married his wife, Karen A. Manganello, and went on to have two beautiful children, Anthony and Robert. He was a wonderful grandfather to his two grandchildren, Claire, and Ryan.
Tony Cella began his tenure as Fox Hill Country Club's Head Professional in 1966, after serving as an assistant to Felix Serafin. Tony, a top local amateur, decided to dedicate his life to golf. Amateur golf's loss was Fox Hill's gain, and his reputation as a teacher soon equaled his skill as a player. Tony represented Fox Hill competing in the Philadelphia PGA Section and Pocono Golf Series tournaments; all this, despite a busy lesson schedule. Tony proved to be an excellent example for his many assistants, many who have gone on to have their own fine careers. Tony retired from Fox Hill after 38 years of service to the Fox Hill membership in 2004. He continued to support the Pocono Golf Series events and was maintaining a light lesson schedule up until last year. His contributions to the game of golf and Fox Hill are too numerous to mention. You lived a life well played, Dad!
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen A. Manganello; and son, Anthony S. Cella.
Surviving are his son, Robert C. Cella and his wife, Maureen R. Cella; grandchildren, Claire F. Cella and Ryan A. Cella, all of Blue Bell; sister, Rae Ann Casterline and her husband, Ronald, Exeter; brother, James Cella and his wife, Cheryl, Albuquerque, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding.
