Michael Brannigan Obituary

Michael Brannigan, 32, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 9, 2016, while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born July 15, 1983, he was a son to David Brannigan and Janet (Macking) Brannigan.

Michael always knew how to make people laugh with his joking personality, along with a caring soul.

While attending Coughlin High School, he also pursued his love of welding at the Wilkes-Barre Area Vocational-Technical School. He was a 2001 graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving his term of service, he received an honorable discharge.

Michael had been employed by several employers before starting and owning his own business, D&D Property Maintenance, Plains Township. He was currently employed by SCI Dallas as a correction officer.

Michael was a member of numerous social clubs.

Michael enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and riding his quads. He loved to cook and grow a garden. He enjoyed playing pool. He was a huge Giants and Rangers fan. His greatest love of all was spending time with his girls, Destina and Davida, who were the most important people in his life.

Michael will be missed by so many. He was a son, grandson, father, brother, uncle and nephew. He was a Marine to the core, and a great friend.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leonard J. Macking; paternal grandfather, Frank J. Brannigan; and his beloved uncle, Ruben Williams.

Michael is survived by his twin daughters, Destina and Davida, Plains Township; mother, Janet, Plains Township; father, David and his wife, Kim, Hollenback Township; sisters, Shannon, Plains Township; Makayla and Isabelle, Hollenback Township; brother, David, Hanover; maternal grandmother, Sarah J. (Williams) Macking, Wilkes-Barre; paternal grandmother, Ruth (Benson) Brannigan, Wilkes-Barre; and aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.

Family and friends may call at Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Township, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. At 8 p.m., a service will be led by the Rev. Jack Lambert, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Church. SCI Dallas will be providing an honor guard for the viewing.

Michael will be interred in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, on Monday. A service will be held in the cemetery at 12:30 p.m., with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps. SCI Dallas will also be providing an escort to Michael's resting place.

I do not know Michael, but I feel compelled to say THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! A Marine runs toward danger, never away from it & that's why I say thank you. You swore an oath to defend me so I feel it's only right to let you know how much that oath means to me....."Stand down Marine, you are relieved of duty." May God watch over your family as you have watched over me. May he keep your family safe as if they were in His pocket as you have kept me safe. RIP Michael.......

Mike was one of the funniest guys growing up, he always had a joke or a random story that made you cry laughing. He was always full of ideas from running his own bike shop (mikes bikes) in his moms backyard to taking a mustang apart piece by piece (some ideas didn't really pan out).I'm saddened to see him now gone but happy to be one of the fortunate people that can look back & remember countless good times. I'll miss you my friend.
