Richard M. Krappa of Dupont passed away Friday morning, Jan. 15, 2020, in Geisinger Medical Center. He was 56.
Born in Pittston Hospital, Jenkins Twp., he was a 1978 graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus School, Dupont, and a 1982 graduate of Seton Catholic High School. He also attended Johnson Institute of Technology and Keystone College.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Richard was a member of the U.S. Army 1st Experimental Battallion. Following basic training, he was assigned to A Co. 3rd Bn. 9th INF Reg. 7th Infantry Div. (LIGHT) at Fort Ord, California. The 9th Regiment is the oldest remaining Army Regiment. Richard left active duty in 1987.
Richard worked as a delivery driver for Schiff's, Scranton, and later as a commercial tractor trailer driver. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, and VFW Post 4909, Dupont.
Sadly for him, Richard was a lifelong New York Jets fan. He loved being in the woods, all animals, golf and over the years became a fairly good cook. He always said his greatest accomplishment was his beloved daughter, Nicole. His constant companions were his daughter's two dogs, Angel and Bentley.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Bernard J. Krappa.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Cheryl Krappa (née Navich); his daughter, Nicole; cherished granddaughter, Hartley, all of Moosic; his mother, Delphine Krappa Mattei (née Gerlak) and her husband, Sandy J. Mattei, Dupont; brother, Bernie Krappa, Dupont; sister, Donna Krappa, Neptune Twp., N.J.; and numerous cousins, extended family and friends who will all miss his huge laugh.
A private burial service and interment will be at the family plot under the direction of Lokuta-Zawacki Funeral Home, 200 Wyoming Ave., Dupont.
Richard was blessed to have been a cancer survivor.
