Dear Salazar family, my name is Nora Fernands and I am the mother of one of Bruce's platoon mates, Andrew Ethier. I carry Bruce's name and that of five more of his friends KIA on August 11, 2007 which happened to be Andrew's birthday. As this weekend we honor fallen who provide our freedoms, I'd like you to know, I honor them daily in thought and especially, prayer. Andy always told me Bruce was funny and had an infectious smile. He was very fond of him. Blessings to and please know Bruce is always close to my heart.

And Bruce was a really good friend of mine and he is always missed and I talk about him all the time he was a great friend and soldier. I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your son Bruce. I was saddened when I heard this. But you know what, when I attended the services for Bruce, I realized that everyone was saying how he had such a smile all the time and was a happy child. It made me think of his grandpa Panchito. You too Suzie, you all have inherited Panchito’s big smile and laughs too. So even though some of us did not get the opportunity to meet Bruce, it was really really great to hear about him to see the pictures and the video and to see his smile.

I realize how fruitless any words of mine must be at this time of sadness and sorrow. I can only imagine the profound sense of loss you must be feeling at this time. One can only hope the pain and anguish you feel will be asuaged, and you will be left with only the charished memories of the loved and lost. And leave with you the solumn pride that can only be yours in knowing that the loss you've been left with came at the alter of freedom. Your son was fighting to rid the world of terrorsim, oppression and to protect us all. That is of the nobelist causes. You, your family and Bruce will be in my thoughts.

My family lost one of ours on June 21st 2007 to a rocket propelled grenade. My nephew, Pfc Jerimiah Veitch Sanchez was killed in Iraq also. It's a devistating loss. To your family, I offer my prayers and may God comfort you in this difficult time. May we all remember that these men have real families and loved ones that are left behind and keep them in all of our prayers.
