Mr. Delbert R. England, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home August 2, 2013. He was a living example from the teachings of Christ, and his faith served as the lead step in all of his personal and professional endeavors. Surrounded by remarkable friends and a close family, his life is being celebrated as one with everlasting influences for generations to come. His imprint of the construction of commercial facilities in the New Tazewell and Tazewell communities leaves physical remembrances of his desires to uplift the area for a better place of commerce. In his closing days, he was under gentle and loving care by Charlene Miracle and Romona Greer. He was most fond of their work, care, and love shown to him.
He was a Charter Member of the Tazewell United Methodist Church where he served as Treasurer for more than 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, also a member of the Kiwanis Club.
Delbert started The Tobacco Hour that was aired Monday through Friday from the England Hardware & Furniture in New Tazewell.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Doyle and Estel England; wife: Margaret England; sisters: Lois Meyers and Helen England.
He is survived by his sons: Randy England and wife Sue; Danny England and wife Barbara. Grandchildren: Brittany England Sullivan and husband Nicholas; Daniel England and wife Jessie. Great-grandson: Ethan Sullivan. Nephew: Ronald Meyers. Special cousins: Bob and Ruth England. Special friends: Dr. William and Nancy Smith. And a host of many other friends.
The family received friends Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with funeral services at 7 p.m. in the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Todd Peoples and the Rev. Dennis Fox officiating. Music will be provided by Chelsea Estes, pianist Janice Derreberry.
Pallbearers: Daniel England, Bobby England, Nicholas Sullivan, Lynn Barnard, Ed Rusty Hardin and Wallace Overton.
Graveside services were conducted Sunday, August 4, 2013, at 9 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends to meet at the cemetery.
