Barbara A. Sappington, 83, of Canton, MS, passed away peacefully September 27, 2012, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS, after a brief illness.

She was born in Asheville, NC, to Hubert N. Allen and Esther Grace Holder Allen on September 21, 1929. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Monte I. Sappington, her sister Norma Allen Seiler of Houston, TX, and children Lyn Allen of Marble Falls, AR; Mark Sappington (Tina) of Herndon, VA; and David Sappington of Nashville, TN. Her grandchildren include BM1 Shawn (Brandi) Sappington of Ocean Springs, MS; Tucker Sappington of Lafayette, LA; and Hali Sappington of Canton, MS. Great grandchildren include Payton Sappington and Riley Sappington.

Mrs. Sappington was an educator for over 40 years, an avid gardener and devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She received her B.A. from the University of MS, and held 2 Master's degrees from Mississippi College.

Visitation with the family will be held Saturday, September 29, at 10 AM in the Parish Hall at Grace Episcopal Church in Canton. The Memorial Service will follow at 11 AM.
