Joyce Bowman Obituary

Born on August 11, 1926 in Green Forest, Arkansas to Chester V. and Belle (Bishop) Reeves, Joyce attended Green Forest Public Schools and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1948 with a degree in business and marketing.
After graduation, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take a position in the Stanlin Oil Company royalty department as a division order analyst.
It was in Tulsa at the corner of 5th and Boston during the winter of 1949 that she came upon a wet and hungry GI Bill college student named Richard V. Bowman. Somehow they hit it off and on September 1, 1951, Joyce and Richard were married. They set up housekeeping in Oklahoma City and there began a partnership that produced many children and much love. In 1953, they relocated to Jackson, Mississippi where they settled down for the duration and raise their family.
Joyce was a member of Petrol and past president of The Petroleum Auxiliary of Jackson. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Jackson Public System and established the needlework department at Gayfer's in Jackson and retired after 15 years of service.
Joyce is survived by her children, Susan Bowman Hartsough of Owensboro, KY; Bruce Reeves Bowman of Baton Rouge, LA; Lynne Bowman Bulloch of Metairie, LA and John Alan Bowman of Franklinton, LA as well as 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by Richard, her husband of 46 years; her eldest daughter, Victoria Bowman Scott and her grandson, David Heinrich Scott.
Friends are invited to join her family in a visitation/celebration of her life on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 at Biaggi's in the Renaissance at Colony Park, 970 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS.
Memorial contributions are welcome at Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA. 70810 or the charity of your choice.
The Bowman family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of The Haven in Baton Rouge for their loving and gentle care in the final months of our mother's life.

The wonderful meals shared, spend-the-night parties, and many laughs I enjoyed in the Bowman home are very special memories. Mrs. Bowman's jest for life was just unbelievable. I am so glad that I was able to reconnect with her at Pamela's. She will always be a special "Mom" to me.

I love my sweet Joycie. She was a dear friend, mother and mentor to me over the years. She shared so much knowledge ,and she had so much to share, She gave freely to me her kind hand ,words and love. I will forever miss her ,as will my son. She took the both of us under her wing. Joycie made a difference in our lives that will remain with us for a life time, To all of her children, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of grief and loneliness that i know you feel,as do I. I love you all. Pamela Crum
