Rita Everett Obituary

Rita Walker Everett

Clinton - Rita Walker Everett of Clinton passed away on March 10, 2018. Born in Cleveland on November 21, 1944, she was the youngest daughter of O.V. and Marietta (Roberson) Walker. In 1949 the family moved to Flora where she graduated school in 1962. After receiving her teaching degree from Delta State University, she started teaching in Long Beach where she developed her life-long love of the coast. While teaching in Long Beach she met her husband Jerald Everett and they married in 1967. The Everett family moved to Clinton where they became members of the First Baptist Church where Rita taught pre-school from 1973-1987.

Rita's greatest love was her family. Her husband, children, grandchildren, niece and nephew were her heart and constant joy. She was more than a wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she was a fearless defender and friend whose selfless love and support for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. Her favorite activities included watching Golden State Warrior Basketball, cruising Hwy 90 while listening to Elvis, making sandcastles with her grandchildren, traveling, and spending time with her children and husband.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Jerald Everett, daughter Sonya Skelton of Brandon, son Preston (Stacey) Everett of Richland. Grandchildren Nicole and Jacob Skelton, Nathan and Marietta Everett, and Sister Mary Anne (Norman) Stank of Long Beach.

Visitation will be at Wright and Ferguson in Clinton on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 10 a.m. to noon with a funeral service immediately following. A private graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Rita. I had the good fortune of working with her at State Disability. I was young when I started and she took me and 2 other examiners under her wing and guided us, taught us, as well as made us laugh! I missed her when she retired but I knew she wanted to spend time with her husband and kids and grandkids.. She always talked about them and her flowers and working in her yard. She was one of the nicest ladies I've ever met and it was evident she had that (favorite) "teacher" type attitude, you know the teacher you keep going back to because you like them and how they make you feel. Mrs. Rita was a pleasure to know and I'm very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to her family, I know how much y'all meant to her.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of Rita. I was a grade ahead of her at Flora High School. We were so few in number that we were all friends. I send my condolences to all in her family.
