Rodger Gilreath Sr. Obituary

Rodger Douglass Gilreath, Sr. peacefully entered eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 8, 2025. He was born in Washington, D.C. on August 21, 1950 to the late Joseph Henry and Ann Louise Douglass Gilreath. He graduated from McKinley High School in Washington, D.C. His career in the US Military Army Branch was inspired by his high school's ROTC program that he participated in starting at age 15. He earned a degree in History Education at Hampton Institute in Hampton, VA in 1972. While a student at Hampton, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He continued his education by attaining a Master Degree in Education from University of South Carolina in 1977. He played the trumpet in the Hampton University Marching Band. He worked as a swim instructor and a lifeguard during his college years at Hampton University. While serving in the military, he also attended military schools. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army. He was joined in holy matrimony to Beverly Langley Gilreath in 1973 in Denmark, SC. From their union were two children. Crystal LaToya Gilreath, born at Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA and Rodger Douglass Gilreath Jr., born in Nuremburg, Germany. In 1981 the family was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY and later settled in Clarksville, TN. He worked as a civil service employee as a Battle Simulations Director at Ft. Campbell, KY for 26 years until his retirement. His hobbies included fishing, swimming, watching college and pro football games, and traveling with his family. He accepted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into his life in his early twenties. He faithfully served the Lord as a Deacon for many years before becoming an ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ. He later joined Faith Outreach Church with his family where he continued to serve in several outreach ministries. Rodger D. Gilreath Sr., a loving and dedicated husband, father, uncle and friend of many leaves to cherish his memory of his wife, Beverly Gilreath, two children, Crystal Rucker (Anthony) and Rodger D. Gilreath Jr.; one grandchild, Amiya Rucker; Sister-in-Law, Pastor Barbara L. Patterson (Pastor Jimmy Patterson); Cousins, Annetta Stinson (Rogers), Rogers Stinson Jr. [godson], Shanna Stinson, Carolyn, Gloria, Cheryl, Yvonne Boggus, Rodney Boggus, Mike Boggus (Dorothy), Iven Tolbert (Terri), Volos Tolbert (Regina), Kenny Holland (Latanya), David Beatty, Calvin Tobert Jr., Ernest Tolbert, Regina O., Laura T., Laura, Mary, and ElMarie; nieces, Tonya Langley, Marissa Kearse; nephews, Sterling Langley, III [godson](Erica), Shawn Langley (Monica), Aaron Langley (Kenitria), and great nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Faith Outreach Church 731 Windermere Dr., Clarksville TN, 37043. A visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Funeral Home 1510 Madison St. Clarksville TN, 37040. Burial will follow service at Resthaven Cemetery.
