David Ashe Obituary

David Hulet Ashe, age 94, passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2024. He was born on Dec. 5, 1929, in the Shooting Creek community of Clay County. David will be remembered as a dedicated worker, a loving family man and an active member of his community.
David worked for an impressive 48 years with Champion International and rose to the position of maintenance supervisor before retiring. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. David took pride in his career and left behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. In addition to his successful career, David was a firm believer in the importance of education. He was a graduate of Hayesville High School where he excelled both academically and athletically and was a letterman on the football team.
David had lived in the Beaverdam Community of Canton since 1954 and was an active member of Beaverdam Methodist Church where he held numerous positions, including serving as church treasurer for 50 years.
Outside of work, David had many hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He was a hobby farmer who raised beef cattle and was an active member of the Haywood County Cattleman's Association. David also served his country with honor as a member of the National Guard and had been a member of Clay County Masonic Lodge 301 since 1951. David was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Madge Crawford Ashe, and a brother, Jerry Ashe. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 64 years Eva Jane Worley Ashe who passed in 2018.
David is survived by his loving daughter, Cherie Ratcliffe, and her husband, David, of Lewisville, N.C. He was a devoted father who touched the lives of his family members in countless ways. David's grandson, Corbin Ratcliffe, of Winston-Salem, N.C., also survives him and will carry on his grandfather's legacy with pride.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Beaverdam United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Hartman officiating. Burial followed at Beaverdam Community Cemetery. The family received friends from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.
The family would like to thank the employees of Silver Bluff Rehab and Arrowhead Cove Independent Living for their care and compassion the past 2 months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaverdam Community Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, 28 Garrett Drive, Canton, N.C. 28716.
