Douglas DeLoach Obituary

Douglas "Doug" or "Dougie" Wesley DeLoach, aged 56, of Fleming, Georgia, passed away on January 28, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 20, 1968, to Harley "Gerald" and Ann DeLoach.
Doug was a lifetime resident of Liberty County, Georgia, and a graduate of Bradwell Institute Class of 1987.
He was most content at his home, gardening, in a deer stand, working at Coastal EMC or fishing. The family has a running joke of his "triangle of travel", which included home, work and Pleasure Bluff, the places he truly loved the most.
Anytime Doug, Dawn and the kids would travel for vacation, it could have been an episode of "National Lampoon's Vacation." These are memories that will be cherished forever, even the Toyota's alarm sounding for hours outside the hotel room at 6 a.m. in Valdosta, Georgia.
Doug was a man of strength and integrity that could build anything and cook the best food. His specialty was grilling. His son, Wesley, takes after him in these regards.
He always loved the outdoors and could rarely be found inside. Doug was notorious for "piddling" around the yard and he could always be found working on a project or tending to his various pets.
Doug loved Georgia football and could often be found cheering on the Dawgs. He was never a bandwagon fan and always supported his team, rain or shine.
Doug fought a long, valiant battle against Stage 4 cancer for three years and never let it stop him from doing the things he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn; two children, Brooke and Wesley; his parents, Gerald and Ann DeLoach; his older brothers, Jerry (Melissa) DeLoach and Thomas "Tommy" (Laura) DeLoach; his mother-in-law and sister-in-law, Meryl O'Neal and Beverly Pirkle; his nephews and nieces, Jared (Brittany) DeLoach, Ansley DeLoach, Jennifer Pirkle and Brian Gaskin; aunt, Linda Carter; Barbara Martin and Lynda (W.L.) Hall, women who he viewed as second moms; and many beloved family members and friends.
The family would like to thank Georgia Hospice for their incredible care for Doug and his family, specifically Savannah and Stephanie. Thank you to Patricia Johnson, his nurse navigator that remained an integral part of his care team, even after leaving her position at Memorial Hospital. And a special thanks to the men and women at Coastal EMC that felt more like a family to Doug. He would often say how thankful he was for y'all. He never stopped talking about wanting to get back to work up until the day that he passed.
The viewing will be Saturday, February 1st, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home. The following day, Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, at 2 p.m., we will have Doug's celebration of life at the funeral home with Dean Sikes conducting the service. Doug will be laid to rest at the Hinesville Cemetery.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
