Joseph A. "Joe" Hanis, 90, Formerly of Bruno, died Monday, November 4, 2024 at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, November 8, 2024 10:00 a.m. SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Abie, Nebraska. Rev. Tony Schukei, Rev. William Holoubek, concelebrants. Visitation Thursday, November 7, 2024 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary all at Kracl Funeral Chapel in David City. Additional visitation one hour before mass at church. Committal with military rites Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. American Legion Rejda Post #273 and U.S. Army flag folders. Lunch following committal at Northside in David City. Memorials to family wishes or Masses.

Joe was born April 14, 1934 on the family farm near Bruno, Nebraska to Frank and Rose (Blatny) Hanis. He attended school through the eighth grade and then went to work on the family farm. Joe served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959 during the Korean War. On April 18, 1959 Joe was united in marriage to Jarmilla Sabata at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City. He was a lifelong farmer, farming on the family farm his entire life. He and Jarmilla farmed and raised livestock side by side. He was a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church of Plasi, and a member of the Amercian Legion Rejda Post #273 of Brainard.
Joe is survived by, Daughters and son-in-law Deb (Kirk) Marushak of Bruno, Connie Scholz of Bellwood. Grandchildren Brad (Hanna) Marushak of Ceresco, Jenny (Mark) Polacek of David City, Tiffany (Sam) Sedlacek of Wahoo, Nicole (Anthony) Zimmer of Lincoln, Cody (Katie) Scholz of Lincoln. Great Grandchildren Colin, Miles and Grace Marushak, Noah, Levi, Owen and Kade Polacek, Addison and Emmett Sedlacek, Alexander and Evey Jo Zimmer. Brother Frank (Leona) Hanis of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jarmilla in 2019.
