Katherine Casey Obituary

COLUMBUS - Katherine M. Casey, 89, of Columbus, formerly of Omaha, died Friday, June 18, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton, with the Rev. Don Cleary officiating. Burial is at Fullerton Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. vigil and rosary, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Casey was born July 12, 1914, in Nance County to Frank C. and Caroline (Lesiak) Knopik. She grew up near Krakow and attended Red Top Country School and St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Krakow. She worked for Billies Cafe and Becton-Dickinson of Columbus.

She married Earl Casey April 30, 1958, in Henderson, Ky. They moved to Columbus for several years and then moved to Omaha in 1968. She worked at a couple of hotels and then retired from the telephone company in Omaha in 1982. Her husband died in 1998.

She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church of Fullerton, St. Ann's Altar Society and a past member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Omaha. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.

Survivors include one daughter, Rita (Kent) Recker of Omaha; six brothers, Edward (Lea), Virgil (Irene), all of Fullerton, Frank (Kate) of Lincoln, Richard (Doris) of Columbus, Louis (Donna) of Grand Island, Jerome (Rita) of Plattsmouth; three sisters, Rose Zaruba, Lorraine (Darwin) Hamel, all of Columbus, and Mary (Ben) Gdowski of York; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Roman and Earl Casey; one brother, Lawrence; and two sisters, Elizabeth Stopak and Ethel Kava.
