I will always miss my fifth cousin David. We met online, collaborated on a genealogy book about our common ancestress Rebecca Bowe Ragland which is now in the Library of Congress for future generations and became fast friends. He and Adrienne And Carol took me to Idlewild Pres when I came to Memphis. They even visited us in SouthCarolina. I still miss him. I look forward to a great reunion with my dear friend in heaven.

Dr. Davis was my first principal when he opened Memphis Prep in 1973; I was his French and Spanish teacher. He was a devoted and enthusiastic administrator. My condolences to Adrienne and Scott.

David was my fifth cousin and dear friend. We met online doing genealogy research. We collaborated in several projects. One day when I was visiting Memphis, he took me to the cemetery where he and his family would be buried and showed me his tombstone. I miss him very much. A true gentleman in every respect who loved his family very much.

Although having never met Dr. Davis, I can recall his son's (Scott) good-hearted, deep-voiced imitation of him -full of respect and admiration. I miss Scott and sincerely miss the opportunity at having one day met his father.

I never met Mr. Davis and knew him only through his scholarly contributions to preserving and sharing the history of the Davis, Ragland, and Bowe families and through our brief correspondence a decade ago.
He will be remembered by unborn generations with gratitude for his generosity and foresight in preserving our shared identity.

Dear family of Dr. Davis
Mr. Davis was my Senior English Teacher at Whitehaven High School. What I remember most about him was that he always encouraged me to do my best. I graduated from Memphis State and went on to achieve Masters Degrees in many teaching areas. He was the very best.

God brings special people into our lives to shape us and mold us into the individuals that He would have us to be. Dr. David Davis was one of God's greatest and most successful servants. He shaped the lives of hundreds upon hundreds of people in a way that was uniquely his. His life lives on through the lives of each of us and we have the opportunity to share with others the many attributes and qualities that he shared with us each and every time he came in contact with us. May God Bless Adrienne, Clifford and Ann. Peace be with you, always.

Dr. D was such a kind and caring man. Thank you for all the things you did for us at Memphis Prep. I just wish there was a Memphis Prep to send my children to. May you rest in peace and I know that I will see you again some day. May peace be with you Mrs. Davis.

Dr. Davis was a man among men. My first Principal as an educator. My first mentor. He was always giving me words of wisdom, and word of inspiration. Without him, I would have not met the many WONDERFUL people that I still remember with great fondess.

Dr. Davis, It's hard to express the impression you made on me, and what your influence meant all those years. You were one of the great ones. Thank you for your tireless love and commitment to all the students and friends that happened to pass your way. You will always be missed, and continue to live on a little in each of us that were fortunate enough to call you friend.

Thirty years ago Dr. Davis interviewed me at Memphis Prep for my very first teaching position. At the time I was right out of college--very scared and inexperienced. He immediately made me feel comfortable and confident--and he hired me! Today I am still teaching school and fondly remember the guidance he provided to me. Truly a great man--he earned my respect and I am so thankful for his kindness and influence. Thank you Dr. Davis--you will be remembered and missed by many.

I can't believe you are gone. I was just thinking of you Saturday while I was wandering through Booksellers of Laurelwood. In fact, I could have sworn I saw you there, but was mistaken. You were a wonderful person, and I feel priviliged to have known you and your family. Scott always had a special place in my heart.
Lovingly,
Alisha

Adrienne,my dear next door neighbor from the old Highway 51 Haledale house and then again my next door neighbor on Farrow Road, my thoughts are with you. David was the Class of 1965's "Mr. Davis" and my daughter Jennifer's Prep Class of 1988 "Dr. Davis". He saw many of us through to our careers. He will stay in my heart and I feel sure he knew that the last time we talked. Much Care. Martha

David Davis suggested that I might someday become good enough to be a professional writer, and that's what I tried hard to do and it's what I am today; and I don't think it would ever have happened without his mentorship. He believed in me as a writer and cared for me as a person not just at Whitehaven High School (where he was the best teacher I ever had) but through all the years thereafter. He never stopped wanting to know how I was doing professionally and personally, and he came to confide me in as well--so that after a time I felt that I had been admitted to a place of intimacy with the fullness of his humanity, which was infinitely rich, infinitely kind, and deeply sensitive to the quietest stirring of the subtlest emotions. David Davis was one of those rare, rare souls on whom nothing is lost, and he was always willing to share the harvest of all he knew and felt. He was one of the finest men Memphis has ever known.

No one could have adored David more than this cousin with whom he took time as a young man and remained a good friend during my school years and adult life. My love and admiration to dear Adrienne who will continue to be one of my favorite people in this world. David was lucky to have you as were you, him! He will be missed.
