A "policeman's policeman," says it all.

As a resident on Grandview Avenue, I have always felt a great confidence in being protected by Don Lewis and his ProTech officers. I did not know how very accomplished he was; he was truly a gem for the MPD and the citizens of Memphis.
I know his family swells with pride over his accomplishments both professionally and as a family man.

Dear Laura Ann and Family, I remember well the fun times I had with you and Don and children. I have kept up with your lives through Tom and Kathryne. My heart felt sympathy to you and your family. May God's loving arms surround you during your time of sadness.
In His Name,

Chief was a policeman's policeman, he came up from the bottom and never forgot where he came from. He was a great commander. He will be missed.

We will all miss him and his leadership. Thanks for everything you did for me. I wasn't one of your MPD boys but you always treated me as one. Rest in Peace Boss. See you on the other side...

A duplicate of this picture of Chief Lewis hangs on a wall in my home. Not because of any hero worship, but because as I have indicated to my children, such men as he, walked the face of the earth.
Firm when he had to be, but always fair. Honest and hard about demanding it from others. Compassionate toward those officers who had stumbled and fallen. He never turned away an officer who wanted to speak with him. He knew all of us by our first names, and genuinely wanted to know how you were getting along.
Always ready to share in a good prank even if he was the victim!
You could not ask for a better leader of men. You did the right thing not to avoid trouble, but to simply please the guy. You just didn't want to disappoint him. He was one of those people who had that aura about him of confidence, intelligence, and humanity. I've witnessed him conversing with lawyers, doctors, engineers, and esteemed businessmen. All came away with a genuine and higher regard for the man.
The words inprinted on the Memphis Police Department seal are Knowledge, Courage, and Integrity. Beyond a reasonable doubt and to a virtual certainty, these words applied to him.
On a personal note, he loved his family deeply. They were his heart and soul. He didn't tell you how to act, he showed you by example.
As I told my daughter this morning, people like Chief Lewis exist in this world proving that there are great men who are selfless, and devoted to doing something to better humanity. Time and again he demonstrated this trait.
I was honored and privileged to work for, and with, this man.

Laura Ann, Suzanne, Don, Vince, and Angela it was with great regret I learned of Don's passing. Fond memories as neighbors in Whitehaven that will not be forgotten. It was with great pride that Don was on stage when I was commissioned as a Memphis Police Office and had nothing but the highest respect for Don as Deputy Chief. In memory of Marshall & Rosanna from the entire Reed Family our condolences at this time. Don along with the entire family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Don and I grew up next door to each other all the way through high school, when we lived on Rosewood. So many good memories of hanging out together. I will always keep these memories alive. RIP , my friend!

" To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with" Chief Lewis got the full value of joy. He had a great family and many friends to share his joy!
