Leah MacLeod Obituary

Leah MacLeod

Concord, NH - Leah MacLeod, age 70, of Oak Street, passed away on October 24, 2023 at her home.

She was born in Landstuhl, Germany, daughter of the late John W. and Mary (Estes) Satterfield. Leah and her siblings were Army brats, and from infancy were trotted around the globe, including Maryland, Virginia, Alaska, Bad Aibling, Germany and North Carolina, after which they settled in Concord, NH, home of their maternal grandparents.

Leah was a graduate of Concord High School, class of 1971. She was married to Chris MacLeod, an English teacher in the Concord School District, from 1974 until his passing in 2011. Leah received her bachelor's degree from UNH, her master's from Notre Dame, her CAGS from Plymouth State College and her Doctorate in Education from Argosy University.

Leah was a teacher at Rundlett Junior High School and Rundlett Middle School in Concord until her retirement in 2014. She was deeply committed to the academic, social, and emotional growth of students, and also devoted her time and energy to mentoring other teachers. Throughout her career she expanded her own teaching abilities from her first passion of English into the integration of math and science. She was a team player who put students' success and interests first. Nothing pleased her more than seeing students love a book or become totally engaged in their own learning.

Leah had also been the recreation director at Epsom Manor, and after she retired from Rundlett, worked as an adjunct professor at Plymouth State and Notre Dame Colleges.

Leah loved reading, British TV and books, sewing, crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a seasoned traveler and her many trips took her to Scotland, England, Greece, Germany, France, Spain, Brussels, The Netherlands, Ireland, Italy, Turkey, Belize, and The Dominican Republic.

She is survived by her son Josiah MacLeod and his wife Rebecca of Clinton, CT; her daughter Elizabeth MacLeod and her wife Tabitha of Franklin; 3 grandchildren: Thora, Odysseus "Buddy", and Juliette MacLeod; her siblings, Lorna Austin of Pembroke, NH, Peter Satterfield and his wife Marie Straiton of Pembroke, and Jill Satterfield of Loudon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 6th from 4 to 6 PM at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main Street, Concord.

In lieu of flowers if you would like to donate a children's book in Leah's memory you can bring it with you to the visiting hours; the collection will be donated by her family to Spaulding Academy and Family Services.

Leah - thank you for helping me navigate the rocky terrain of being a new teacher. Your passion for teaching and literacy will never be forgotten.
A treasured memory that will never leave me is That of you reading Harris and Me to a group of 75 captivated sixth graders.
