Marjorie Shea-Miner Obituary

Marjorie Grace (Hortop) Shea-Miner, 89, a Concord resident for over 50 years, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, in Plymouth, Mass. from cancer. She is predeceased by her brother, Donald Hortop; her husband, Lawrence (Larry) Shea; and her second husband, Ed Miner.

Margie was born in Lynn, Mass. on June 14, 1927. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School. In the last years of World War II she worked at General Electric in a high security program that supported the war effort. In 1950 Marjorie married Larry Shea who in their early years in Concord owned Eastman's on Main Street. Their 47 year long, happy marriage revolved around family, friends and church.

Marjorie was a joiner and a leader. She volunteered for multiple organizations and served as President for many of the following: United Methodist Women, Concord Female Charitable Society, The Stratford Club, Church Women United, PEO, Concord Hospital Associates, Wesley's Couples Club, Friends of the Audi and The Friendly Kitchen. Marjorie's primary role was as a mother and homemaker, but she did work at several positions in Concord over her lifetime. Her most treasured job was as Superintendent of the Wesley United Methodist Church School. She also worked for the Union Leader, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission and the Concord Public Schools.

Later in life Marjorie married Ed Miner a retired FBI agent. They enjoyed seven years together traveling, connecting with family and friends, and simply having a wonderful time. Marjorie wanted you to know that she has been called to an important engagement from which she will not be returning. There she will see beloved family members and dear friends whom she hasn't seen in a long time. She will dance, snowshoe, take walks, sing her favorite hymns, listen to NPR, read Shakespeare, eat delicious food (without gaining a pound) and delight in a glass of Chardonnay.

Marjorie leaves her son, Mark Daniel Shea and his wife, Valerie of Sacramento, Calif.; her daughter, Lori Shea Mahmud and her husband, Ayaz of Duxbury, Mass.; her granddaughter, Sairah Mahmud of Boston; her grandson, Ian Lawrence Mahmud of New York City; and her cousin, Janette Hornby and her husband, Tony of the Isle of Wight, United Kingdom. Finally, she bids farewell to many beloved relatives and devoted friends.

A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m. at Wesley Methodist Church, 79 Clinton Street, Concord.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 79 Clinton Street, Concord, NH 03301.

Mark, Lori and family - So sorry to read about your Mom. It's been a long time since growing up together on Rundlett Street in the Conant School neighborhood. But the memories are still fresh from all the good times we had growing up there. This has been quite a week for the old neighborhood loosing your Mom, Mrs Carlson and Mr Roberts all in the same week. It all brings back a lot of fond and fun memories. Your Mom was always so welcoming and kind to us all. After we were long gone from the neighborhood, I know she and my Mom often still took walks together around the neighborhood. I can only imagine all the stories they would tell each other, about the things we did, that we likely thought they never knew! Great friends and neighbors. Just wanted to send a note of condolences, and thinking of you and family. Best, Bob
