Richard Brady Obituary

NEW LONDON – Richard N. Brady, 82, of New London, died at his home Thursday, December 28, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

Born in Orange, N.J. on December 2, 1935, he was the son of the late H. Neill and Marion (Jacobus) Brady.  He was a 1953 graduate of Clifford J. Scott High School in East Orange, N,J,, attended Holderness School in 1954, and UNH from 1955-56.  Dick served in the USA National Guard from 1958 to 1964.

He was a summer resident in New London from 1950 to 1955 working at Twin Lake Villa.  He worked at A.S. Little and Son Garage and Kidder Garage before joining Kearsarge Telephone Company in 1961.  Kearsarge Telephone Company became TDS and Dick was manager there until 1996 when he retired.  During his tenure there he was responsible for many innovations, including bringing cable television to the New London area.  In 2014 he was inducted into the Telephone Association of New England Hall of Fame "In recognition of outstanding contribution to the Telephone Industry of New England".

Dick loved and was active in his community of New London.  He was a member of The First Baptist Church and for many years until November of this year sang in the choir.  He was a member of The Boys Club of New London,  Lions Club, Rotary International, the Outing Club, New London Fire Department volunteer, Lake Sunapee Country Club, the Profile Auto League and a Founding member  of the Kearsarge Youth Hockey Association.  He loved golf, hockey, the Ice House Museum, working with fellow classmates on Clifford J. Scott reunions, model railroading, winter in Florida, Ocean Park, Maine, gardening, photography, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, New England Sports (Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins), attending children's and grandchildren's events, and his many friends.

Most of all he loved his family in all its many facets.  He will be remembered by them as loving, supportive, generous, meticulous, as well as hard-working, practical, conservative, and sometimes a bit stubborn. A very brief description of him would be that he was a very kind and caring person.

Those he leaves behind who will dearly miss him are his long time and loving partner, Linda Myers; his sister, Barbara Brady Conn of Surprise, Ariz.; his sons, Mark (Cindy) Brady of New London and Alan (Brenda) Brady of Wilmot; and his daughter, and Jill Salvail of Eliot, Maine.  He also leaves his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Alissa Brady Megee, Nicholas Brady, Clare Brady, James Brady, Brady Salvail, Brooke Salvail and Matthew Brady; as well as his niece Sarah Conn and a step-grandson, Sean Harrington.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Beverly Nichols Brady, and by his nephew, Brady Conn.

Services with a reception following will be held Friday, January 5, at 1 p.m. at The  First Baptist Church, 461 Main Street, New London.

In lieu of flowers,  contributions may be made in his memory to the Kearsarge Youth Hockey Association, PO Box 1771 or to the Ice House Museum, PO Box 299, both in New London, NH  03257.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Dick and I shared our love for Model A's and the Profile Automobile League. I was pleased that after I left New London 35 years ago Dick acquired my 1930 Roadster and I knew she was in good hands. Many fond memories

Jill and the whole family -
I'm so sorry about your dad's passing. He was a wonderful man with a positive outlook. I have so many memories of him from growing up - throwing quarters in the Country Club pool to dive for, "frost bite" tours in the rumble seat, and always a smile and greeting in the brick room when I came by. My condolences and love,

To Linda ... and Dick's family,

We are truly saddened to learn of your loss. We did not know Dick well - or for long - but admired him, not only for his accomplishments but for his ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships. He knew that to have a friend you must be a friend and he was world class at doing just that. His close friends make witness to that every day and others, like us, are thankful our paths crossed often enough to recognize and benefit from his gift(s).

Sincerely,

Paul & Lisa Violette

To all of Dick's Family: Our deepest sympathy to you all. I knew Dick for a very long time, dating back to his early years with Kearsarge Telephone Company. Over those many years we shared a lot of the same experiences and worked on many boards & committees as part of the NH Telephone Association and the Telephone Association of New England (TANE). He was a fine gentleman with a great sense of humor and a pleasure to be with. And he also was a fine golfer. He was a proud winner of the TANE Masters Golf Tournament at the Balsams Grande Resort and placed in the top 10 often. We have lost another good telephone person.

Richard and I grew up together in East Orange, New Jersey from first grade through high school. Kind and classy in all circumstances. The photo accompanying the announcement is exactly as I remember him: tinkering (now called detailing) with cars and bringing everything to a brilliant shine. Rest my friend.

"We were deeply saddened to learn of your loss. Your parents had been very important friends during our early years as new residents , when we first came to town over a half a century ago. Your father was always the first to be on the scene when we needed assistance of any kind; i.e moving day from King Hill to Old Main Street or during the time I was frantically pacing the waiting room when Squidge was giving birth to Bebe. Your Dad and Mom were always there. We cherish their commitment to friendship."
