Raymond Martin Obituary

Raymond Eugene Martin

COSHOCTON: Raymond Eugene "Ray" Martin, 65, of West Lafayette departed this world at 9:20 A.M. on September 25, 2012 at the Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care Morrison House in Zanesville.

Born February 4, 1947 in Lancaster, Ohio, he was the son of the late Arthur A.R. Martin and Faye Janie (Nowlin) Martin-Kaiser.

Ray was a door journeyman, welder and locksmith for Salisbury Steel for many years. He was a "jack-of-all trades" tinkerer, master carpenter and elite "on-the-spot" problem-solver.

Ray's motto could well have been "don't trust anyone who won't laugh." Ray lived to cheer people up with his zany sense of humor. When asked how he had come by his humor, he would say, "Don't know. I woke up this way."

His hobbies included the great outdoors, sleeping under the stars, woodworking, fabricating furniture from miniature to full size and photography of animals. He was a real lover of animals and was quoted as saying, "You don't pick your pets, they pick you." He trained every pet he ever had.

Survivors include a son Adam Martin of Salisbury, Md; two grandsons Addison Jacob Martin of Bensalem, Pa and Micah Lanning Martin of Salisbury, Md; two sisters Janie (Bill) Keaton and Debbie Brickey both of Coshocton; nieces and nephews; and special friends Carl Hoshor and Bev and Keith Beery.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by nephew Michael Brickey II and great-nephew Charles R. Strohmyer III.

To honor Ray's request there are no calling hours or funeral service. His Cremains will be scattered at a later date.

Memoriums may be made to Four Paws Friends/Friends of the Animal Shelter, 504 Main Street, Coshocton, OH 43812. Envelopes are available at the Free Funeral Home, Coshocton, who is assisting the family with arrangements.

An online guestbook may be signed at www.coshoctontribune.com.

We sure had some fun times in Carroll when we were kids with Sharon, Tom, Mary Maye, Janie and Mugsy. I remember one time in particular. We were all at Grandpa Swartz's farm. You got mad at the rest of us and threw stones at our playhouse windows. My brothers caught up with you and they had me throw a dried cow pie in your face. Boy, did I ever get into trouble for that. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. R.I.P.
