To the Macri family:

Our deepest sympathy on the untimely death of Nick. Although we have not had a lot of contact, we have known the family for almost forty-five years. I still remember water-skiing with Nick in my college days. We hope that remembering the good times that you spent with each other will be a comfort to you.

I was one of the lucky ones...I was part of the Macri Family, if only for a short while. I was married to Nick's son Chris. Nick brought me in to his family and became the father figure I never had. Even though Chris and I have moved our separate ways, I never forgot Nick or his kindness. I have reconnected with Kay over the last several months and am so glad I got to talk to Nick one last time.

The whole family is in my prayers during this time of sadness and Nick will forever live in my heart.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Nick was a true Mensch, a supportive presence at the Department of Mathematics. I was lucky to be able to rely on his day-to-day help after I had joined Temple University and was trying to get my bearings. My wife, Maria, and I will always miss Nick. May he rest on peace.

Nick was a great friend; a dedicated, enthusiastic, innovative professional; a jack-of-all-trades and master of ALL.
I remember fondly our great discussions, our working together, trips to Sea Isle City for fish and so much more. Nick is often on my mind. The news of his passing was shocking. I miss him already.
Condolences to his wonderful family.

It was with great surprise and sadness that we heard of Nick's passing. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you in your grief which I'm sure you know we share. I've known Nick since he was a teenager. Though I was older, we became friends hanging out on the street corner and shared good times, eating, drinking, talking, and traveling to the shore. Years later he was in my wedding party. We had many common interests, like mathematics, politics, investing, and good food, especially hot peppers. We shed tears using too much of the hot pepper sludge at Pat's Steaks and even attacked a bowl of fried habaneros in my kitchen (after he tried one first). We made bad wine and worse beer, though his only fault was leaving me to finish each project. When we lived near each other, we would occasionally talk long hours into the night about our lives, our families and friends, and our country, everything which mattered to us, which worried us or which made us laugh -- we laughed a lot.

And we remained connected, by e-mail and occasional luncheons with friends. I feel that he died young. Age and retirement did not diminish his interest in keeping himself and others informed and doing things in the world. He was not an old remembered friend, he was still a close and active friend. And because of that, I will miss him even more.

I am so glad that I did my usual cookie stop on Christmas Eve. We had such a nice visit and enjoyed some drink and conversation. You are great neighbors and good people. I am so sorry for your loss. Nick would see me working in the yard and he'd always comment on how nice my flowers were. He will be sadly missed.
