Walter Mathis Obituary
AGE: 68 • Vineland
Walter H. Mathis, Jr., 68, of Vineland, NJ passed away early Thursday morning December 27, 2012 in the SJH Hospicecare Inpatient Care Ctr., Bridgeton, NJ. Walt was born in Camden and raised in Lindenwold, NJ where he was a longtime resident prior to moving to Vineland in 1992. He was the son of the late Mildred (Gale) & Walter H. Mathis, Sr. He was also predeceased by 2 sons, George & Donald and a granddaughter Ashleigh. Walt was employed as a truck driver for over 40 yrs and had worked at S. Coraluzzo Trucking Co for over 27 yrs. He was the recipient of the 1 Million Mile safe driving award. Walt was a longtime member of the Lindenwold Vol. Fire Co. #1 where he had also served on the Board of Fire Commissioner's. He was also a member of the N.J. State Exempt Fireman's Association. Walt had also served the borough as a police officer and dispatcher. He served in the Army Reserves with the Batt C, 1st BN, 112th Artillery. Walt enjoyed working in his yard on his tractor & raising Dalmatian dogs.
He is survived by his best friend & wife of 34 yrs., Helen (Schleicher); five children, Larry (Mary) Ballentine, Laura Howell, Jerri (Jim) Stokes, Michelle (Howard) Gwin, Gayle (Bill) Ulrich; 3 grandsons, Christopher, Michael & Vincent; 8 granddaughters, Amanda, Christina, Rebecka, Taylor, Samantha, Haylee, Mackenzie & Jordan; as well as 7 great grandchildren.
Relatives & friends will be received on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Rd., Vineland, NJ where his funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM on Monday. Cremation & Inurnment will follow. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ashleigh Gwin to Rainbow of Heroes, Duke University 13 RH, DUMC, P.O. Box 3350, Durham, N.C. 27710.

Grandpop I know we never really had the chance to spend any time together but I really wish we could have. At least you can look down with my dad and know I'm doing good.
