Dear Tony, I loved Dan like a big brother; and my children considered him as an Uncle for all those years. It just won't be the same when I come to visit. I will be coming to visit after the first of year, got to wait for more vacation. I will be sending a donation to the Human Society in his memory. Tony, you are my only brother, and I love you with all my heart. Please take care of yourself. It is hard living in South Carolina for us to visit; as neither of our health is fantastic. But I think of you daily. Your loving sister, Mary Jo Jenkins Brehn

I have not seen Dan for over 40 years but I remember him well and fondly as our next door neighbor when I was a grade school and high school boy. Dan had not become his authentic self at that point in his life but, nevertheless, he was a gentle and caring man. I remember many instances of shooting baskets with him in the back yard and talking sports. I am glad Dan found a life partner and I truly hoped he find peace and joy in his life. I wish I had had the chance to tell him this in person but I haven't lived in Evansville for nearly 40 years. God bless you Dan!

Dear Tony,
It is hard to put into words all of the different feelings that I am having right now. I regret not visiting with you both more often over the years during my trips to Evansville. I was always rushed, as my visits were usually short and centered on a holiday, birthday or some family catastrophe. After mom passed away and my sister was all alone my focus was usually an out of town trip with my sister. I so much enjoyed visiting with you and Dan in your home the one time that Alan came with me to Evansville. Alan and I enjoyed the visits you and Dan made to Chicago many years ago. I wish that I would have had more of those kinds of memories with the both of you over the years.
This makes one reflect on one's own mortality and the shortness of life. And we should cherish the time we do have. I look forward to the possibility of visiting you when I am in Evansville in October.

I pray that you have the strength to get through this horrible time. Both you and Dan will be in my thoughts and prayers.

With My Deepest Sympathy,
Stephen Ritzel

Dear Tony,

With deepest heartfelt sympathy I share your sorrow at the loss of Dan who was a truly kind and generous person who am honored to have called a friend and a part of my life though miles and the years had separated us. The world is diminished without him. May God grant him the peace and happiness he so deserves.

With all my condolences,

Alan Nelson (spouse of Stephen Ritzel)
