David worked as a supervisor at Chayes Virginia Corp., was General Manager of Shawnee Plastics in Kuttawa, Ky., and for the past 25 years owned and operated Lively Machine Co. on the West Side of Evansville. He enjoyed wrestling, IU basketball, and Indianapolis Colts football.
David enjoyed spending time at Barkley and Kentucky Lakes boating, fishing and spending time with his family and his many friends. He never met a stranger and was well known for his humor and practical jokes.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Dixie (Diefenbach); sons, Eric of Chicago, Ill., and Kenny and his wife, Michelle, of West Frankfort, Ill.; his parents, Bob and June Scales of Chandler, Ind.; brother, Bob and wife, Annette, of Newburgh; brother, Chris and wife, Jennifer, of Evansville; mother-in-law, Clara Diefenbach of Evansville; sister-in-law, Brenda and husband, Jim; sister-in-law, Lily and husband, Mark; brother-in-law, Kelly and wife, Linda; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Ben Diefenbach.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at the Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, officiated by Sister Jenny Miller, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. today and Friday from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
The Family would like to thank all the friends, co-workers and the health care professionals who have helped and supported them over the years. A special thanks to Dr. Anthony Stephens, and all the supporting staff at Oncology Hematology Associates for their excellent care and support. The Family would also like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and technicians at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital as well as the loving friends and family who were there with him through his final hours.
