Janet Klusmeier Obituary

Janet Lee (Hamer) Klusmeier

Evansville, Ind. - Janet Lee (Hamer) Klusmeier, 76, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at St. Vincent Medical Center.

Janet was born on September 5, 1944, in Evansville where she resided throughout her life. Her parents were the late John and Catherine Hamer of Evansville. Janet graduated third in her class from Mater Dei in 1962. After graduation she went to work at Bendix Westinghouse as a secretary for approximately three years. Janet then found another secretarial position with Mead Johnson where she spent a little over two years. She married Karl Klusmeier on October 21, 1967. Karl served in the Air Force and had two years left to finish his assignment at Weathersfield Air Base in England. Upon his discharge from the Air Force, they came back to Evansville where they stayed. Janet found a secretarial position with Local 808 Union who represented Whirlpool. She retired from there after 39 years in 2009 and began volunteering her time. Her favorite volunteer job was at Salem United Methodist Church as a quilter. The quilts the group made were sold and the proceeds went to the church and various missionary causes. The group goes by the name of Piecemakers. She enjoyed being with this wonderful group and gained some very special friends throughout the years. Janet was the most thoughtful and kind person you'd ever meet, coupled with a great sense of humor. She was a modest and giving person who never once spoke negatively of others. Above all, she loved her family dearly and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

Janet is survived by her husband of 53 years, Karl W. Klusmeier of Evansville, IN; daughter, Becky D. Klusmeier of Tucson, AZ; son, James W. Klusmeier of Greenwood, IN; four grandchildren, Jaxon, Lauren, Averi, and Maxwell Klusmeier; sisters, Betty Alsip (Bobby) of Evansville, IN, Mary Paradiso (Ray) of Vandalia, OH, Judy Hamer of Bellbrook, OH, and Patty Burghardt (Mike) of Evansville, IN; and brothers, John Hamer (Diana) of Newburgh, IN and Steve Hamer (Kathy) of Evansville, IN.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Stephens.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711, with Rev. Bessie Adams officiating. A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
