Joseph Dodge Obituary

MOUNT CARMEL — Joseph R. Dodge, 75, of Mount Carmel, passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.

He was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Sturgis, Ky., the son of Joseph L. and Mary Frances (Mills) Dodge.

He married Bernadette Schauman on July 25, 1953, in Evansville. She survives.

Mr. Dodge was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks 715, Eagles and the St. Mary's Church.

He worked as a design mechanical engineer for Pacific Press, more than 30 years.

Surviving are his wife, Bernadette "Bernie" of Mount Carmel; a son, Joseph Robert Dodge and wife, Doretta, of Mount Carmel; three daughters, Allyson Marie Dodge, of Brandesten, Fla., Beth Ellen Dodge, of Evanston, Ill., and Ann Michelle Dodge, of Makanda, Ill.; six grandchildren, Andrea, Joshua, Melissa, Zoe, Ella and Clara; two great-grandchildren, Jalon and Isabell; five sisters, Hilda Joyce (Kenneth) Dimmitt, of Evansville, Rita Kay (Jim) Kuntz, of California, Sharon Ann (Edmund) Hafer, of Evansville, Nina Kay (William) Smith, of Kentucky, and Marcia Dodge (Jeff) Smith, of Indianapolis, Ind. and an aunt, Jewby Lyons.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at St. Mary's Church in Mount Carmel, following cremation. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Short Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Mount Carmel Public Library or to the Natural Resources-Illinois Clean Waterway.
