Lawrence Henry Meriwether Sr., affectionately known as Mert, was born in Clarksville, Tennessee

Montgomery County, on December 4, 1934 to J.B. and Shirley Mae Kendrick Meriwether.

He passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

Lawrence graduated from Lincoln High School where he excelled in academics and football. He was offered scholarships to Alabama State and Tennessee State.

Lawrence was a community leader serving on the Human Relations Commission and was a former member of the Masons and Sterling Men's Club. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and football. Everyone knew his favorite team was the Patriots. He was baptized at an early age and ultimately made the Memorial Baptist Church his church home. He served as President of the Usher Board for many years. He was employed at Whirlpool and retired after more than 38 years of service.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years Gornetta Meriwether;

Lawrence is survived by his sons Lawrence H. Meriwether Jr., Torrence Meriwether, Royce Sutton (Lori), Tony Howell; daughters Darla Meriwether, Debra Meriwether-Baltzell, Keely Meriwether; brother Lee Meriwether (Carol); sisters Arrelia Coleman and Dahlia Joan Lyons (Lewis). He is also survived by an abundance of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousin's extended family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at Memorial Baptist Church, visitation will be 9am until service time at the church.
