Hayden and Givens Families; what a precious gift, Marilyn was to friends, strangers and most of all, her church family. Marilyn always loved gospel music. She never hesitated, when asked, to play for her "home" church, New Hope Missionary Baptist.
In her later years, after joining the Mother's Board, she would pull out her tambourines or maracas to set a "beat" to whatever joyful tune the choir would sing. Many times she joined in, and you could hear her alto voice. From childhood to adulthood, I will never forget Marilyn's smile and her love to "testify" about how good her GOD was to her. HEAVEN will surely gain a gifted musician. We will forever miss her musical talent and kind spirit, on this side, but we will certainly know that we have crossed that other side of "River Jordan," because we will hear Mother Marilyn Hayden Givens, loudly welcoming us HOME, with her instruments.
Dear Family, I can only PRAY that our GOD will comfort you in HIS ARMS to give you a calming strength and peace.
With sincere sympathy.

Marilyn was a very nice person with a sweet personality. I remember her from school in Evansville. My prayers are with her son and family.

Marilyn and I met at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church when I was a girl. I played piano and organ there through my teen years. Among the many churches at which she played, she also played for the Carver Center Senior Citizens Choir. My mother, the late Mrs. Beatrice Ervin sang with them, and I attended rehearsal sometimes in the summer. I also remember seeing Marilyn on duty as a school crossing guard at Lincoln Elementary School.

Growing up in New Hope Bapt. Church, going through the various choirs according to your age, Marilyn was always there. When we didn't have a pianist, when they were running late or what she'd step up and fill in. I remember her playing songs but I don't recall sheets of music in front of her. She seemed always prepared be it a Tambourine or a pair of Maracas ; Marilyn knew what sound was needed and produced it. Her spirit was filled with music and her inter-reactions with people was priceless. Heaven has received a Angel in Marilyn Hayden Givens, my Sister n Law!
