Robert Majewski Obituary

Robert Majewski

Evansville, IN

Robert (Bob) F. Majewski of Evansville IN passed peacefully with his wife and daughters at his side on February 7, 2019 at the Linda E. White Hospice House.

Robert was born in Chicago in 1927 to Walter and Mary Majewski. God, family and friends were most important to him. He enjoyed camping and foreign travel; tennis, handball, woodcarving and singing in the choir. He loved a good cup of coffee in the morning and a gin martini to end the day. Bob was a member of the American Chemical Society, docent for Mesker Park Zoo, member of Sacred Heart and Holy Redeemer Church choirs and was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He served on the Board of the Patron's Club of Memorial High School, was a judge for the Tri-State High School Science Fair for many years and served as project chairman for the science seminars to gifted students at the Evansville Museum.

In his early days, Bob served in the US Army from 1946 to 1947. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois followed by a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in 1954. He joined Bristol Myers-Squibb as an Organic Research Scientist until he retired in 1987. He continued to consult for the company in Drug Regulatory Affairs until 1993. While at Bristol Myers, Bob developed a compound called oxybutynin (Ditropan) that is still readily prescribed by physicians today.

Bob is survived by his wife, Emma Lou (Roach) of 57 years, three daughters, Susan Hargett of Evansville, Anne Dailey (David) of Fishers IN and Jennifer Holt (Tim) of Raleigh NC; five grandchildren, Sarah Myers, Melissa Hargett, Olivia Holt, Lauren Holt, Calvin Holt, one great grandson, Aidan Bushman and other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eleanor Friedmann (John) of Chicago IL.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, February 10th at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Avenue with a brief service at 4:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, February 11th at St. Mary Catholic Church in Evansville with Father Benny Chacko officiating. Friends may visit before the Mass at 9:30am. Entombment will directly follow Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum where the Retired Veteran's Memorial Club will conduct military honors.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to LeAnn for her loving care of Bob, and support of the family for past four years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mesker Park Zoo, 1545 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, IN 47720, St. Mary Catholic Church, 613 Cherry St., 47713 or the charity of your choice.

February 9, 2019

I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Bob's family, sorry for your loss. Jeremiah 29:11, 12 assures us that God is thinking thoughts of peace towards us, to give us a future and a hope, and that if we come and pray to Him, He will listen to us. May that bring you comfort in this time of sorrow.
