Joseph Bassemier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierre Funeral Home on Feb. 4, 2026.
Joseph C. Bassemier, Jr, 62, of rural Evansville, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born on October 28, 1963, in Evansville to Joseph and Mary Lee (Blume) Bassemier. He was a 1982 graduate of Mater Dei High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team and the first Mater Dei wrestler to go on to compete at a Big Ten School. He also graduated from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in 1986. As a young man, he worked at Bassemiers, then later as the plant manager of Red Spot Paint and as the production manager of ADCO Products. Joe's last job, which he enjoyed immensely, was as a TSA officer. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there and playing Fantasy Football with his co-workers and friends. Joe enjoyed fishing, playing Clabber and Mater Dei wrestling. Joe was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church, the St. Philip Men's Club, St. Philip Conservation Club and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 102.

Surviving Joe are his wife of 37 years, Mary Beth (Minar) Bassemier; sons, Alex Bassemier and Sam and his wife, Melissa Bassemier; parents, Joe and Mary Lee Bassemier; sister and her husband, Rhonda and Rick Baumgart; grandson, Ellis Alexander Bassemier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art and Mary Minar, Larry and Jennifer Minar, Gary, Robert and John Minar; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Truman and Genevieve Minar.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 9, 2026, at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Ryan Hilderbrand and Rev. Luke Hassler officiating. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday at St. Philip Catholic Church, 3500 St. Philip Road, S.

Joe's family would like to thank all of his friends and family who played clabber with Joe up to the very end, especially his parents, Joe and Mary Lee; sister and brother-in-law, Rick and Rhonda Baumgart, and friends, John and Gina Vibbert and Andy and Mary Weiss. Also, thank you to Matt Koch for being there and faithfully cutting Joe and Mary's grass all spring and summer and to Deaconess Hospice and Joe's nurse, Jaime, who made him comfortable throughout his illness.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Philip Men's Club, 3500 St. Philip Road, S, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620 or to Mater Dei Athletic Department, 1300 Harmony Way, Evansville, IN 47720.
