Thomas Jenkins Obituary
Thomas Keith Jenkins, 88, died Friday, October 17, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1937, in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas (Wayne) and Ruth Arlouine Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Constance Bartram Jenkins.
Jenkins graduated from Harding High School in 1955 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1959. He earned a law degree from Ohio Northern University and a Masters of Tax Law from Southern Methodist University. He was admitted into the Ohio Bar in 1962. He returned to Marion in 1963 and practiced law for 22 years with his father-in-law, the late John K. Bartram, and brother-in-law, John C. Bartram, until he was elected Probate and Juvenile Judge for Marion County in 1984. Judge Jenkins served in that role for over 24 years until his retirement in January 2009. He was a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and served on its Council of Delegates and Board of Governors. He was also a Life Fellow and Past President of the Ohio State Bar Foundation and a Past President of the Marion County Bar Association.
Judge Jenkins was active in the community, and in 1994, he was appointed as an original member on the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University at Marion. He served on the Marion County Board of Mental Health, and he was a board member and Past Chairman of the Marion Community Foundation, where he established a scholarship for graduates of Marion high schools who are interested in pursuing a career in the legal profession. Judge Jenkins was a 60-year member of the Marion Rotary Club and a member and Past President of the Order of Symposiarchs in Marion County.
When he was not on the bench, Judge Jenkins' greatest passion was playing golf. He was a member of the Marion Country Club and took many golf trips over the years with friends to North and South Carolina, Ireland, and Scotland. He also enjoyed many cruises abroad with Connie in retirement.
A huge sports fan, Judge was a lifelong supporter of the Buckeyes, the Browns and the Indians (Guardians). He enjoyed over a decade of trips to the Men's Basketball Final Four tournaments with his daughter, and he was fortunate to attend a World Series game between Cleveland and the Boston Braves in 1948, and again in 1995 with his brother-in-law between Cleveland and the Atlanta Braves. He also was present with his family for the Buckeyes' victory in the 1997 Rose Bowl and Super Bowls XXVIII and XXX.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Judge Jenkins is survived by his daughters Karen Borgerding (Ken) and Pamela Mason (Monty), grandson Jack Borgerding, and granddaughters Katie Borgerding, Taylor Anne Mason, and Hawley Mason. He is also survived by his younger brother and best friend, Stephen Jenkins (Mary Ann), with whom he shared a birthday three years apart, and his brother-in-law, John Bartram (Jana), as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Judge Jenkins was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marion, where he served as a Trustee and Elder. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Marion, Ohio or the Marion Community Foundation.
