Norman Casey Obituary

Mr. Norman (Spud) Casey died peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of June 4, 2016.

Norman was born May 31, 1928 in DeFuniak Springs to Norman L. and Sidney L. Casey.

During his childhood, his family lived in several locations around Northwest Florida including Walton County, Okaloosa County, Wakulla County and Santa Rosa County.

He graduated from Milton High School in 1946 and went to work in his father's general store (N.L. Casey & Sons) in Milton until he founded his own electrical contracting business in 1948.

Norman met Anna Ruth Hinote while they attended Milton High School, and the couple married on July 25, 1946.

The entire family moved to a small farm near Holt in 1951, when Norman's father sold the Milton general store and retired. Norman and Ruth then opened a small office for the electrical contracting business on East Woodruff Avenue in Crestview.

During the mid-50s, Norman worked for a company headquartered in Alma, Georgia and traveled around the country doing government contract work installing runway lighting and aircraft guidance systems on military and civilian airports.

In late 1958, Norman and Ruth moved to a home at 898 Georgia St., in Crestview and located Norman's electrical contracting business on the same property.

In 1964, they expanded the business to include air conditioning and heating and, in 1975, they incorporated the business as Casey Electric, Inc. In 1980, they moved the business to 225 N. Ferdon Blvd., where it remains today.

Norman and Ruth retired from Casey Electric in the mid-90s and the business is now owned and operated by their son, Roger, and his wife, Ginny.

After retiring from Casey Electric, Norman worked for almost 10 years at the Crestview Wal-Mart's electronics department. He was also a Master Mason of Mount Ewell Lodge 131 of Baker, Florida and was in active Masonic service for more than 60 years.

Norman is survived by his beautiful wife of almost 70 years, Ruth, and three loving children, Larry and his wife Cathy of Almond, North Carolina, Theda (T.J.) and her husband Donnie Todd of Holt, and Roger and his wife Ginny of Crestview.

His 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren will also sorely miss him; they were all sure to bring a smile to his face and a prank to his mind.

Norman will be remembered by all as a kind and honorable man who loved his family, his friends and his employees.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or their favorite charity in Norman's memory.

The family sincerely thanks Crestview Rehabilitation Center's staff for their loving care of Norman and their kindness to the family during his stay with them.

Visitation is set 5-7 p.m. June 9 at Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. The family will hold a private memorial service later.
