Alexius Conroy Obituary

Alexius C. Conroy
Alexius Charles Conroy was born November 16, 1946, son of the late Ambrose Patrick and Brigette Conroy of Orland Park, Illinois. Alexius was an alum of Gilmour Academy; Wharton Undergrad at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the undergraduate and alumni President of the Class of 1968; and the USC Marshall School of Business where he earned his MBA.
Alexius spent his life as a commercial property developer, working as Vice President of Real Estate with RH Macy & Co, and later as President of Cadillac Fairview US. In the mid-1980s, he founded The Conroy Development Company with the mission of urban renewal, job creation and using real estate as the catalyst for transforming communities. He was an early advocate of sustainability and the use of renewable energy in real estate development. His many successful projects have had lasting positive impact on their communities.
Alexius was received into the Order of the Knights Malta by John Cardinal O'Connor. He volunteered as the President of the Discovery Museum Foundation in Bridgeport, Connecticut and was an active and enthusiastic member of YPO. He loved boating on Long Island Sound and around Nantucket on vintage wooden boats which he named "HALLELUJAH". His pride for his country and his Irish heritage held strong throughout his life. Alexius was a charismatic innovator who gave much more than he received and deeply cared for the people in his life.
He was united in holy matrimony to Nancy Mulholland, December 14, 1985. They led an adventurous, compassionate life together. Alexius loved his son, Alexius Charles Conroy Jr., his stepson, Daniel Clark Williams, and his brother's children, Ambrose Marc Conroy and Meghan Patricia Conroy who they lovingly raised together. Alex's love expanded over the years to cherish Ambrose's wife, Lucy Smith Conroy and his grandnephew and grandnieces, Benjamin Trumbull, Keira Victoria and Sara Maher Conroy; as well as his granddaughter, Abigail Clark Williams.
Alexius peacefully departed this life surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Ambrose Eugene Conroy and Joan Patricia Conroy, and his nephew Colin Maher Conroy.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday February 8, 2019, at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Fairfield, Connecticut, with Father Michael Jones of Saint Lawrence Parish officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Alexius' memory be made to the American Heart Association. www2.heart.org.

I met Alex years ago when he hired me at Cadillac Fairview. I then worked with him later at the Conroy Development Company in Greenwich. We have not kept in touch, but a mutual acquaintance sent me this notice, so I did want to add my condolences. He was a great mentor to me and I am saddened to hear of his passing. He will be missed. I hope you all may find peace in this time of sorrow.
