I met Ann like a shot from the dark.
I am an artist and also the current WASP President’s secretary. In 2003, I designed and built the WASP traveling exhibit. A section of the exhibit is entitled, “Now and Then.” I took photos of 26 of the WASP “Now,” enlarged them to life size and put a photo of themselves “Then” (as a WASP), on a card in their hands. The card has a few facts about their WASP flying days and a short, ‘funny’ WASP story for the public to read as they tour the exhibit. In March 2003, when I was working as an artist for a client in Westport, I called Ann ‘cold.’ She had never met or heard of me prior. I explained what I was doing for the WASP and asked if I could take her picture. She and her charming husband, Ed, graciously invited me to their comfortable farmhouse . . . “typically Connecticut,” where I took her photo for the exhibit. They asked me to stay a while. We three sat in a sunny little room surrounded by fine antique furniture. I explained the WASP project much further. They shared Ann’s flying history with me. I was so taken with the Whirley Girl stories and with all that she had done since her days as a WASP, including her community leadership projects! They allowed me to page through a wonderful scrapbook of some of her news notes and I was in heaven! I hated to leave, I wanted to know more, but did not want to be a bother. I intended to visit with them again, when I was in the area, but never had the opportunity to go back. My affiliation with the WASP has kindled so many new, wonderful friendships with so many rich personalities. I feel truly blessed. They are amazing ladies! Ann was one of their shining stars. Such vision! I can only imagine what a fine example of character and leadership she must have been. My deepest sympathy to all who knew her and will miss her.

Ann was in my Class, 44-10, the Last
Lost Class, in Sweetwater, TX. I
did not know her well as she was in
the 2nd Flight.....but I was so proud of her becoming a heliocopter
pilot.
My sympathy to her family.

I am currently the President of the National WASP of WWII organization. I am from Class 43-W-7. Ann was in Class 44-W-10. Therefore, I did not get to know her. After reading her obituary, she is one WASP I wish I would have known. She seemed to have been interested in the things I am most interested.

Ann was a good neighbor and Ted was a fellow Sikorsky worker. We loved seeing her picture in the Smithsonian. Son Mark was a playmate and the good years of childhood were a wonderful time for all of us. We now have retired to Bradenton, FL and are amazed at what the new family did with 1265 Brookside Drive.
Best wishes to all of the family
