Annamae Dragone Obituary

Annamae Dragone
Annamae Dragone, age 91, of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Peter Dragone, passed away on March 15, 2021 in her home. Annamae was born in Bridgeport on December 12, 1929 to the late George and Anna (Harrison) Borodach and had been a lifelong area resident. She was graduate of Harding High School. Upon her graduation, she worked at Avco for approximately 10 years, during which time she streamlined their operation. She retired from the City of Bridgeport Board of Education, where she worked as Chief Accountant for Federal and State Programs for 37 years. In 1997 Annamae received a Proclamation from Mayor Joseph P. Ganim where September 12th is recognized as "Annamae Dragone Day". She was highly regarded in her field and received a citation from then State of Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell and from former Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi upon her retirement. Annamae was loved at the board of education for helping all educators obtain state and federal funding and for making the education experience for students better. No one has filled the void since her retirement. She was a lifetime member of the Carpatho Russian Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist in Bridgeport and also worked for the church as a financial officer. She was the former President of the Bridgeport Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Bridgeport Symphony Women's Guild. Survivors include her devoted sons, Manny Dragone and his wife Tina of Stratford, and George Dragone of Orange, 2 grandchildren, Alexander and Shane, great-grandchildren, Dominic and Isabella, sisters, Helen Halkovic of Florida, Margaret Miterko and her husband Peter of Trumbull, and Dorothy Daymonde of Shelton, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Annamae was predeceased by her brothers, George, and Henry. A Requiem Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, March 19th at 11 a.m. meeting directly at St. John's Orthodox Church, 364 Mill Hill Avenue, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Stratford. Everyone in attendance must follow COVID 19 guidelines and wear a mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations in Annamae's memory to St. John's Church. The Adzima Funeral Home-Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. To the family of Annamae,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I worked with Annamae for numerous years in the BOE. She was a competent, caring, knowledgeable person, who worked tirelessly in the interests all. I learned so much from her, for she would not hesitate to "tell you like it is" and back it up with facts and figures.
May she rest in peace in the arms of Almighty God.

Annamae was a beautiful person and I admired her energy and her spirit. I worked in the Federal & State Programs under the directive of Inacia Geter and Annamae was the go to person when it came down to the budget. The Board of Ed. has never been the same when she retired.

My heartfelt condolences to her husband, children and family. May God give them strength for the day and comfort for their tears.
