Barbara Parente Obituary

Barbara J. Parente
Barbara J. Parente was called to her eternal home on Friday, September 12, 2025. She was born in New Haven, in 1933, during a snowstorm. Maybe that was why she loved the outdoors and every living thing on God's beautiful earth.
She graduated from Southern CT State University, in 1955, and married Leonard Parente in July of that year. She loved teaching! She was a schoolteacher at Bethany Community School for 30 years, retired, then substituted another 15 years. Since 1973, she enjoyed her summers in Maine with friends and family. She enjoyed walking, birding, swimming, hiking, snow skiing, water skiing and golf. She was a long-time member of the Audubon Society.
She is survived by her children, Janet Banderas, Lenny (Francine) Parente, Barb (Russ) Roberts; grandchildren, Jennifer Yocca, Dan (Nicole) Banderas, Ben (Christine) Banderas, Michael Jake Parente, Zachary Parente and Rachel Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Amelia, Miles, Billy B, Ava and Tommy Banderas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard; and her son, Billy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions, in Barbara's memory, may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489 ( www.alz.org/ct ). So sorry to hear of the loss of Barbara. She was one of my teachers in 6th grade at BCS and was one of my favorites. Both of my sisters had her as a teacher too and we were all blessed to have known her and caller her friend. My condolences to everyone in the extended Parente family. Jim Seaton - Bethany, CT

The loons called and Barbara J Parente, aka Mom, Grama, Great Grama, Momoose, Moosey, Grama Moosey listened. She counted the loons on Long Pond every year and we have the calendar to prove it!
As I sat listening to the loons this year, they sounded different, off, not the usual tremolo.
Maybe they were telling me something, maybe they were calling my Mom home.
I LOVE YOU MOM!
