James R. Parente, 65, of Monessen, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Penn Highlands – Mon Valley Hospital, Monongahela. Born April 16, 1960 in Natrona Heights, PA he was the son of the late Rocco and Jean Gallucci Parente. Jim enjoyed videogaming, horror movies and spending time with close friends and family. He would not only give the shirt off his back but the skin if needed. Jim was a fierce protector of those he loved. He also loved music and used to DJ for many years. Jim attended Kiski High School and then went to studied to be a Surgical Technician. He worked in group homes taking care of many different people during the course of his time in that field. Jim enjoyed outside yard work (planting flowers, cutting grass, etc.) Although Jim was not particularly a religious person. he found comfort and peace attending Orthodox services from time to time. Jim enjoyed spending time with his "adopted" nieces and nephew and loved his role as “Unka Jim." He enjoyed baking and assisting with cooking for holiday meals. The last year and half was very stressful for Jim due to various losses and health complications. On an average day, Jim could be seen listening to his trance/dance music and "jamming" as he recollected more positive times in his youth. It is no wonder he was given the nickname, "DJ Jimmy Jams" by close family and friends.
He is survived by his housemate and long time companion Matthew in addition to his 3 living cats, Krampus, Djinxx and Narasimha as well as his "adopted" nieces and nephew (Elsa, Emi and Owen) as well as countless close friends who were considered his family. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Regina Parente.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 3-6 pm at the Parzynski Funeral Home & Cremations LLC, Family Owned and Operated, 626 Broad Avenue, Belle Vernon 724-929-6183. A prayer service will be held Friday evening at 5:30 PM with the Rev. John Kotalik officiating.
